This is one of my keeper radios for a couple of reasons. #1, it's the most sensitive radio I've owned on MW. If you like to do some AM DX'ing, this radio is excellent. It's just as good as the "GE Super-Radio". I'm in the NY area, and can pick up AM stations all over the US and Canada. #2, the audio quality is excellent. Battery life is also excellent. As shortwave radio, it has its shortcomings. By design, the radio has an analog tuner with a digital display. This causes the radio to drift, as most analog radios do. Many people think because it has a digital frequency display, that it's a digital tuner. Not so. Overall good radio, right out of the box it picked up some pretty far away stations. Night time listening of course is better between 6 and 12 khz. Expect to hear mostly religous and latin america stations. The knobs are easy to use but are somewhat generic feeling, there is some play in all of them. The antenna broke on me today so be careful if you plan on moving the radio alot. It would help if it had memory keys due to the many sw stations there are to choose from. The audio quality is great on the stronger stations, am reception is not as great as i expected. Much has been improved in the DL verison. The sleep timer can be turned off. Signal lock reduces drifting. After about 30 min. inside I get almost no drift at all. AM is powerful. I live in Peoria,IL and I get stations from New York, California, Florida, and Minnisota and they sound like they're comming from Peoria. The tunning dial on mine is not sloppy like other reviewers have mentioned. Short wave reception is very good and with an external long wire it is excellent. The drawbacks are No SSB, and the wall wart adapter adds quite a bit of noise on the SW bands. I have been very happy with this radio. I bought this mostly to use outside in the back yard, and the sound is excellent. Reception is quite good, but it tends to drift slightly off the station occasionally. It is a bit bulky, and there isn't a place to store the AC transformer, which would have been nice. There isn't much warning when the batteries quit - the metre goes from full charge to dead rather fast. The fact that there is no presets isn't a big problem for me because the tuning dial is fast. Before ordering this through Amazon, check with your local radio store. I am in Canada, and it ended up costing over $140 through Amazon, but it was $99 at The Source. I will make this short and sweet. I never owned a shortwave radio and wanted my wife to be able to listen to German radio broadcasts. The radio achieved this right out of the box. I will not be able to rate how this radio stacks up against the competition, but it has done exactly what I purchased it for. All I ask it that Amazon should send the pictured product. The picture indicated the newer S350, but received the older model, but I am still quite satisfied with my purchase. Oh, the local broadcasts in both AM & FM are much easier to pick up and clearer than any other radio in the house. For $99 go ahead and buy it!
