Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of ETON G5 AM/FM/Shortwave Portable Radio with SSB (Single Side Band)Customer Review: Saved me from disaster in the desert Summary: 5 Stars
I was living in the middle of the Navajo Nation, Arizona and needed a good portable FM radio so I could listen to KNAU Flagstaff. I went to The Shack in Gallup and purchased the Buz Aldrin G6 and sped home and unfortunately the reception was so poor I couldn't get FM in my place. After emailing Eton a customer service person suggested taking it back and getting the G5 which I did. BINGO! It worked like a charm with crystal clear FM reception where the G6 had NONE. He indicated the internal FM antenna in the G5 was more sophisticated with much longer range. Who would have thunk!
This is a peach of a product. I also have the larger G350 which I forgot to bring. The sound from the G5 is as good as from the G350 in a much smaller design.
Buy this if you want damn good FM reception in a compact package.
Customer Review: great radio, lousy vendor Summary: 4 Stars
The radio works well with the exception that it does not receive SW off of the whip antenna.
SW works great on an external long wire.
SSB is very good. I am listening to Puerto Rico at the moment and it hears the signal as well as my $500 Satellit 800.
AM is excellent
FM is good
This unit was bought new. It wasnt. The display was all scratched up.
It came from TS Liquidators?
I would have sent it back, but the RF performance is so good on it that I decided to buff out the display myself rather than return it.
Also I think the narrowband filter is a bit to narrow.
Beware TS Liquidators
Customer Review: Excellent Portable For The Price Class Summary: 5 Stars
Extremely nice, easily configured potable radio. AM broadcast band and FM performance is exceptionally good. SSB (Single Side Band) although BFO tuned, is very good. Shortwave performance is on par with radios in the $300.00 price class. Display back lighting is great and the display is easily read. Although a bit more expensive than the Sony ICF-SW7600GR, and does not offer synchronous detection, it is worth the price.
Note: Some offerings includ ear buds, travel case and roll-up antenna - some do not. The manual indicates these are are included although that is not always the case.
Customer Review: Great Radio, but where is the real manual! Summary: 4 Stars
Just got this radio, it is great. Everything that Eton and Grundig name stands for is in the radio. But I have one question: Where is the real manual? All that this radio came with, is a little getting started book? Is this some kind of a joke? It is a complicated gadget, you would think that for that price it would come with a real book!!!
Oh overall, this radio doesn't need a review. It sounds great with really nice controls.
So:
Radio is 5 stars!
Manual is 1 star!
Customer Review: Doesn't measure up Summary: 1 Stars
First of all, let me say, I am not an expert or radio junkie, I just want to listen to decent sound on the local FM stations, so take my comments based on that. I had an Eton before this radio and it was a great little trooper, I loved the devil out of it. It eventually bit the dust and they had stopped making it so I bought the Grundig as it appeared to be a similar replacement. Well, the speakers were never great and now, TWO YEARS LATER, it gave up the ghost!!! Maybe I got a lemon but I'll never buy another Grundig again.
