Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Black)Customer Review: a different kind of radar detector Summary: 4 Stars
this is a high end Escort detector, so even though its actual radar detecting features are not advertised much compared to the GPS, note that it does what the non-gps high end Escort detectors do. no need to review that part.
I chose this one because I have don't have a speeding problem, I have a speed trap, speed zone problem. the ability to mark and be alerted to my regional traps is what makes this a value. the false alarm warning is a bonus, like other reviewers note, after a while, it's nearly silent which makes you take the few alerts it makes very seriously. I have it set to display speed at all times, handy if you don't trust your car's speedo.
although the docs say it's ready to go out of the box, I did the software update which also lets you read and set options from your PC. I found that Ka and X bands were defaulted off, not a big deal for X but a serious fault for Ka, all our State Troopers use Ka in the area. I advise everyone to turn everything on until you get a feel of what your area police are using. regional updates are not frequent, I haven't been notified for my area yet (two months) and the unit hasn't alerted me to any traps I haven't put in myself (we don't have any traffic light, speed cams in this state, can't comment) so far, but I also haven't gone out of the state with it yet.
others thought the little suction mount clip was cheesy but I think it's just right and holds it without vibration and at the right angle (FYI, we have two German sport sedans). you can bend it to suit your ws. it's small enough to not matter when the detector isn't attached.
Customer Review: Is this product a good buy?????? Summary: 5 Stars
Pros= Gps filtering on automatic mode only works ok at best, plus side of that is you can lock you false signals 'manually' by pressing the mute button 3 times. which is very easy and that works great. The big upside to this product is the controls. You can mark certain speed traps where cops hang out in your town. Its got good range. I leave mine on 'highway' mode cuz it has the strongest signal on that certain mode. Also internet update ready radar. That is state of the art in my book. Cuz you can keep updated with flaws, and technology without having to buy a new radar.
cons= Automatic false signal lockout only works ok at best. I like the manual way of doing it, and it works great in my opinion. Remember radar detector only works if the cop has there radar on. So just because u see a cop sometimes and it does not go off. It only means that cop is not taking radar. Your devise chances are is working fine. My radar works great. But there are times when i see cops and it does not go off. that cop is not taking radar though. So just a note to keep in mind.
Over all thoughts= For sure worth the money if you have busy schedule, And you have to get places going over the speed limit some. Great features and i think its a good buy. Note this is just my opinion only. and my overall experience with the product, as for i am not technologically challanged. So before you make a review and consider a rating make sure you know what you are talking about. I notice some people bash products but most of the time its user error. "JUST SAYING" LOL
Customer Review: Ultimate Experiance Summary: 5 Stars
Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Black)
I have driven with a number of radar detectors in the last twenty years, some excellent and some of other description.
Driving with my newly acquired Passport 9500ix has been my ultimate detector experience. It is wonderful not to be notified with an X or a K band alert every time I am passing the local supermarket, bank or convenience mart (sort of like they have their own pop-up ads on other detectors). Silence truly can be golden.
Now, when I'm local and get a K band alert, I know it's the real deal. Like the other day, when the county sheriff was set up by the convenience mart. He must have thought he was being pretty tricky, but my 9500ix knew the difference between his signal and the door openers (which are also on K band and have been "stored" by my detector).
Police radar detecting performance is better than any I have ever experienced. In New York Ka band is the flavor of choice and there is plenty being used both locally and on the interstates. It comes in many different forms and from either direction. My Passport has been way ahead of their game every time.
Considering the cost of today's tickets whenever and wherever you get them, I simply can't afford not to be using a detector and the 9500ix is the best I've ever used in all respects.
And, I do love that blue display.
Customer Review: Don't waste money on the ix, just get the i Summary: 3 Stars
Bought this to replace a Valentine, mostly for the ability to weed out false alarms. It has a better filter than the Valentine, but the GPS auto filter and manual marking filter don't work anywhere near as well as Escort advertises. And their customer service couldn't care less about helping you once they have made the sale. Their response was just reload the software (which doesn't work) and to find out where by visiting their web-site and serching for it. They couldn't even be bothered to email the url. The detection is just as good as the Valentine on the highway, maybe better. Though without the number or direction indications that did help. In town its filtering algorythm seems to be slightly better than the Valentine, and on the 25 percent of occasions when it is able to use the GPS the auto filter is pretty nice(it seems to have pretty good GPS lock as indicated by the dislay that uses the GPS for your speed--but even then 75 percent of the time it says GPS unavailable for flitering if you try to manually filter a location). All in all though I would have to say either get just the 9500i (or the Valentine--just as good) and don't waste your money on the 9500ix. As far as customer service I can't comment on the Valentine's because I've never used it, it seems to be bullet proof and I still use it in my other car. But Escort's customer service is one of the worst from an electronics manufacturer that I have ever seen.
Customer Review: Great detector by Escort! Summary: 5 Stars
I did quite a bit of research before buying this detector. I was torn between the Escort Passport 9500ix and the Valentine V1. Based on my drive patterns the 9500ix was by far the best choice. Most of my driving occurs in in the city, which has many X and K band sources. The first few weeks I spent quite a bit of time training it along my normal routes. Now, I have completely silent drives to and from work...unless of course there is a LEO along the way :) I haven't had one false yet with this detector. It generally gives me between 20-30 seconds of warning to slow down when they are running constant on. The police around here mainly use Ka band although a few of the sheriffs still run K band. It has no problem detecting them well before they can see me. Last week it alerted me to a Ka band presence with the officer over 2 miles away! It has also detected laser hits from state-troopers, but since I don't have a laser-jammer on my car this feature just let's you know "Hey the cop has your speed now..." :).
The small gripe that I do have with the detector is that its ramp-up signal is a bit too fast. Sometimes the cop will be well over half a mile down the road, and the 9500ix is going nuts :) Maybe a firmware upgrade from the guys at Escort? (Hint hint...if Escort engineers are reading ;)
If you are looking for a quiet drive with almost no false positives, then this is the detector for you :)
