Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Insten Universal World Wide Travel Charger Adapter Plug, White - by eForCityCustomer Review: Serves the purpose Summary: 4 Stars
I bought one of this travel charger and took it for my India trip. In India it served its purpose, I used many hours for almost two weeks everyday charging multiple devices like laptop, camcorder and camera, this adapter never gave any issues but I agree with some of the other reviewers that it does not fit well in the wall plug-point, so I had to buy an extension cord to place in floor to use with this adapter.
I also agree that it is not that well constructed but for the price the quality is decent. Other issue I had was the 'lock' and 'unlock' mechanism sometimes get struck so had to push hard to hold the pin but still I would recommend this adapter for anyone who goes for overseas trips, may be buy two just in case one goes bad.
Customer Review: Worked perfectly in Europe. Great value. Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this for a trip to Italy and France. I used this in various hotels and on our cruise ship along the Italian coast. Worked every time. As other reviewers noted, you do have to use the "unlock" switch on the top to release the prongs you need. Then, "lock" it to keep that prong extended. Note that when you slide the switch to unlock, you may have more than one type of prong pop out. Just push back the ones you don't need and lock it with the prong you do need. Our only small gripe is that the prong we needed for Italy and France (the two round prongs (2nd from the top in the picture) didn't pop out automatically. We had to unlock the device then pry up those prongs. But, once extended, they locked into place and fit every time.
Customer Review: Universal World Wide Travel Charger Adapter Plug Summary: 3 Stars
Got a couple of these to use in Europe in the spring. I tried one at home with my wife's hairdryer. It ran for a few minutes and then stopped. I found that it had gotten too hot. I then read and found that it was only good for 250 watts. The writing on the device is molded, not color contrasted and somewhat difficult to see. I only smoked one of the US male terminals so I figure I can still use it in Europe. I checked it out with an ohm meter and the rest seems to be intact. I will be more careful with the other one. I think it will work fine, just be careful of too much wattage. You might be better off to use the simpler adapters. I will take some of them as well; I just thought it would be nice to have them all in one.
Customer Review: Nice device for traveling, but not completely universal Summary: 4 Stars
This device is a perfect adapter for the common traveler. It is good for most countries, however, I had purchased it for use in South Africa and discovered that it doesn't work there and had to purchase another adapter once there...that being said, it was perfect for layovers in all airports on the way there. Just be sure that you don't need a voltage converter for your device that you plan on plugging in, as this is an adapter only! Most laptops, camera chargers, etc. will convert the voltage as necessary, but hairdryers, straighteners, curling irons and other devices require a voltage converter within the adapter to avoid frying the device. Overall, a good purchase and will continue to use in the future.
Customer Review: Works good (but be careful) Summary: 4 Stars
This product works great when the device you plug in is compatable with the adapter (I didn't check the rating on my Sonicare charger base and fried the base because this is only an adapter and not a converter. I checked all of my other stuff before plugging it in but got lax before plugging in a 110v device only). Also, this product absolutely 100% does not work in SOUTH AFRICA. I read the reviews on here and other people referenced Africa. I took that to mean South Africa, only to get to my destination and learn SA uses a Type M plug (google it) and this is not a Type M adapter. I ended up buying a Type M adapter in South Africa at a hardware store instead. But this product did work in Zimbabwe.
