Customer Review: Great Camera for the Price!

This is a fantastic little camera. Here are some of the pros and cons:
Pros:
- Better overall video quality than the Flip, imo. The Image Stabilization feature, while not making the image perfectly stable, does help *a lot.* I have found my videos much less jumpy than with the Flip. Also, the video quality in general is amazing for a camera this size.
- Underwater Feature. This feature alone is worth the price of admission. The picture quality underwater is unbelievable, and perfect for summer days at the pool or beach. Our daughter loves the water, and to be able to film her while being in the pool with her, with such high quality video, for such a cheap price, blows my mind!
- More functionality than the Flip. While still having rather limited functionality (due to the type of camera this is), the user has more control over various camera functions.
- HDMI out. Very easy to connect to the TV (comes with cable) and watch videos right away.
- Sleek profile. This is more than just an aesthetic benefit. The Playsport is a good bit thinner than the Flip, and as such fits quite easily into a pocket.
- You can get the re-chargeable batteries very cheap. If you have all the functions turned on (Image Stabilization, H2O mode, etc) then it seems that the batter will only last about an hour, or maybe a little longer. But, you can get generic batteries very cheaply (this is a good one: http://www.amazon.com/Maximalpower-DB-FUJ-NP50-Rechargeable/dp/B001JHXOTW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1273493904&sr=8-3), and can change them out very quickly.
- Expandable memory. This also is a big advantage over the Flip. I've got a 16 GB card in there now (the 32mb level 6 SD cards are still so expensive), and on the high quality 720 mode it will take a little over 3 hrs of video. Also, it is nice to be able to upload the video straight from the card rather than having to connect the camera (another advntg over the Flip).
- Comes with wall charger!
Cons:
- As with most cameras this size, the zoom capabilities are minimal, and when utilized, some of the image quality is lost.
- Microphone: this may just be my particular camera, but after we were in the pool about 20 minutes, every time I would surface, the mic would record sound as though it were covered with water. Obviously, I didn't realize this until I reviewed the video later. The sound from our first 20 minutes in the pool is fine - underwater you can't hear much, but when you surface, it recorded sound as normal. But, as I said, after about 20 minutes in the water, it seems that the mic got covered with water, b/c all the above water sound is muffled. But, later in the day when I filmed, and the camera was dry, the sound returned to functioning normally. Not sure what this is. Next time in the pool I will try blowing on the mic a little to make sure it has cleared the water. Maybe this will help.
-Battery life. Not great (see above), but again, buy a couple cheap spares, and this isn't a problem.
- .MOV file type. This is annoying b/c you can't modify it in Windows Movie Maker. I have found that I lose quality when converting to .AVI, but this may just be my technical incompetencies. The Kodak software that comes with the camera works fine. Nothing to write home about, but it works. For putting the clips together to make one continuous movie it does the job.
