Customer Review: Unique style with a few caveats.

I ordered this enclosure along with a 500gb 2.5 inch WD hard drive for the purpose of backing up my computer's system image, just in case. I received them in the same shipment and quickly had it assembled. There really isn't much to the actual assembly--just insert the hard drive into the enclosure's SATA slot and place the cover on top. It's made of a steel mesh that is just rigid enough that the case doesn't feel flimsy or cheap, and it also greatly aids in keeping the whole thing cool during operation. It was a bit of a tight fit for the hard drive I was using, but I was still able to secure everything with the provided (very small) screws. There are two led lights built into it: a blue one that indicates the device is powered, and a red one that flashes to indicate activity.
I quickly discovered that it won't show up as a removable drive (with an assigned letter) until you go into the Windows Disk Management (DISKMGMT) utility and properly format it as a hard drive, which enables it to be used normally. This shouldn't be a problem for anyone who is at least moderately tech savvy.
Once that was done, I had my very own personally assembled hard drive! This is a USB 2.0 compliant device however, and is subject to the limitations of such. On my computer, its transfer speed averaged around 16mb/s. This certainly isn't stellar performance--you'd have to get something with firewire for higher speeds--but for what I paid, I am very satisfied.
