Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of DLO Homedock Music Remote

Customer Review: Too many cons
Summary: 2 Stars

This product is convenient for what it can do. It allows me to move around, control the sound level, change the artists and tracks. But there are so many annoyances about the device. Here are my issues:

1-The remote shows your artists and tracks, but no albums! This wont bother people who don't listen to music by albums, but for those of us who do, this is a major annoyance.

2-There is no one button to pause/play! Once your music is playing, and you are in the "now playing" function, you press the center button once for it to bring you back to the main menu, then press the center button again for it to pause. For it to play you have to press the center button to get to the menu, then again for it to play. You cant press the button twice quickly for it to work either. You have to wait for the remote to load. This is minor, but after a while, its real nerve racking. Also if you try to press the buttons too fast, sometimes the remote gets overwhelmed and shuts down. The words "Out of Range" will appear and you will have to unplug the ipod and replug it or wait 5-10 minutes for the remote to get back "in range".

3-You cant use the remote and the ipod at the same time! You can use the remote, and the docked ipod will show a special DLO screen which is locked. Or, you can turn the remote off and use the ipod. Here is what confuses me. There is a quick way of switching from ipod to remote by pressing two buttons on the remote, but a very long process to switch from remote to ipod. And trust me, there's no quick function for remote to ipod. Its a real hassle and i never want to do it. The way i switch is the quick and easy way of pulling the ipod right out of the dock, finding the music i want, and plugging it back in. But of course, it takes a while for the system to kick up, and this is the drawback.

4-Your music doesn't sync automatically to the remote at any point. I thought that maybe, if both were plugged in to the dock, they might sync automatically. No. When you get new music on your ipod, you have to find the sync function on the remote and wait some 2 or 3 minutes until its done. But here is the real annoying part. If you dont sync it automatically, the remote gets all confused about your artists. You may pick an artist and see the tracks by a different artist. The only reason i can figure that this happens is because the ipod has a different list than the remote and they dont line up.

5-The remote has only one bar of battery! What? Yes, you use the battery, and it says its 100% full, then all of a sudden, bam! its 0! Annoying.

6-The remote is really slow. It takes a long time to scroll through tracks and artists and maneuver around the options and functions. I hate dealing with it because of its sluggishness. I personally only use the remote for changing the sound level and going forward or backward for tracks on an album.

7-The remote says "Out of Range" many times when it is clearly in range. It usually does this if you try to use it too much, but sometimes it will just do it randomly. It happens often and its extremely frustrating. As i said earlier, once its out of range, you have to wait 5-10 minutes for the remote to start working again.

8-The chords are cheap. They look cheap and they have problems with them. The chord that plugs the speakers into the dock needs to be jiggled around in the dock or else there will be a loud screeching noise. If you move the dock, or knock into it, you might be startled by loud screeching and it might take a while to get it right again.

I think that covers the main issues that i find bothersome.
I still use the product all the time and it is useful for what it can do well. Would i recommend someone to buy it? Absolutely not. It's expensive and doesn't work very well. I'm sure some company will come out with a similar device that will work smoothly. I would wait.
