Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of DLO HipCase Leather Folio Case for iPod touch 1G, 2G, 3G (Black)

Customer Review: The best case for iPod Touch...ever.
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently recieved my iPod Touch and this DLO Case and I love them both. Like others said, there is a leathery/chemical smell on the case but this is the case for all real leather products because the company must dip the case in a chemical to prolong its lifetime of use. This makes this case worth it even more. Also, please understand that most leather cases for electronics will need to be slightly stretched out so that the electronic will fit evenly; I noticed that the iPod Touch 8GB was just barely too big, but after slightly stretching the leather, it fit perfectly. I bought this case for $19.70, which is a great value for such a solid case.

Here are the pros and cons about the DLO Case:

Pro's:
-Leather (high quality)
-Protects the iTouch well
-Access to the entire touch screen along with the home button
-Holes/cutouts for each function (light detector, earphone jack, charger port, etc.)
-Belt clip on the back is sturdy and allows easy storage on self
-Inside pocket allows for storage of one plastic card (debit card, credit card, etc.)
-Small magnets help keep the flap closed when not in use

Con's:
-Strong chemical smell for first several days of use (smell is expected from leather products)
-Might need to stretch the case just a bit for a good fit

As you can see, this case has barely any cons and many pros. Get this...now, before the price skyrockets.

Customer Review: Great case
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an awesome case for the ipod touch. Very classy leather, able to hide and protect the ipod touch. All jacks are accesible with this case, including headphone jack and 30 pin connecter. Theres also an opeing for the ambient light sensor for the brightness on the screen. The ipod touch fits tightly and properly into the case so that all controls inside are accessible. Also has a belt clip, I like this belt clip because its not swivel 360 degree one. The flap also has magnets so that the flap stays closed. There is also a flap on the inside for id or credit cards. Good case overall, just wish I could have paid less than $40, maybe something closer to $30. Edit: I ended up getting a new case after using this one for 6 months. Over time it did have some wear and tear and started to lose it shape and form. The iPod touch didnt fit in it as good as in the begginning. I also found it to be bulky when compared to other cases. I have gotten a Incase slider case which is hard shell plastic. Is much more sleeker and sexier and doesnt lose its fit. It was also slightly cheaper. Also provides better protection and makes the iPod touch much easier to use. Keep in mind the incase slider doesnt have a folio or a belt clip. The incase slider also comes with 1 year warrenty which the DLO folio doesnt. I have heard many good things about incase for their custoemr support. Also can use my dock/speakers without stretching or taking out the case with the incase slider.

Customer Review: For those waiting for a touch 2G case...
Summary: 5 Stars

This one works just fine. I couldn't wait any longer for a case made specifically for the 2nd generation iPod touch, so I gave this one a shot based on other reviews.

A very well made product, the DLO folio holds the touch 2G well enough once it is completely seated. However, to insert headphones or the connector cord, you have to put a finger on top to hold touch in place. Still, it passes my acid test: turning the case upside down and shaking: the touch didn't move at all. So I can easily overlook having to use a finger when inserting headphones.

The leather is soft to the touch but feels strong enough to resist normal wear and tear. Holding it up to my nose, there's a faint whiff of gasoline smell, but nothing like the objections made in other reviews. The stitching is even and no loose ends. The belt clip is very sturdy and not likely to tear the leather or come off anytime soon.

There's only one place it's apparent the case was designed for the 1st generation: no cutout for the volume controls. A piece of leather sits right over the volume buttons. No biggie, I still can adjust the volume through the leather with a firm push of my thumb or fingernail.

The inside of the flap has a slot for a cleaning cloth, a nice touch for the touch (sorry).

So five stars for its sturdy construction, fit and finish. Even though it's designed for the 1st gen, it is exactly what I was looking for.

Customer Review: Finest Corinthian Leather? and Cardboard!

[My original review is below]
My current opinion is less flattering to this case. Here's why: I owned the first one 5 1/2 months before the very stiff clip tore from its backing, rendering the case useless for clipping on a belt. Still, I liked the case so much I ordered another. I believe that the quality of this second case is not quite up to the standards of the first, because even though I was very, very careful to avoid tearing the clip from the backing while using this second case . . . it DID tear, and it tore within two weeks of my receiving it. So this is a word to the wise, that if you use it to clip to a belt or whatever, be careful that it doesn't tear off the backing.

Based on my experience with this case, I do not recommend it. It is not built to last. The clip is very stiff, the backing very weak.

I don't really know what kind of leather it is, but this cover is tough and it looks great. I've had my iPod touch a little over a week and always keep it in this case. I've already dropped the iPod on a ceramic floor while it was in this case and the case protected it perfectly. If you're no more careful than I was, then this case is for you. My only qualm is that the thickness of the leather next to the screen means you have to be careful when touching near the edge of the screen. Compared with my opinion of this case in all other respects, this is nothing.

Customer Review: Very nice case for the money.
Summary: 4 Stars

For the money, this is one of the best cases I have seen for the iPod Touch. The HipCase protects the iPod from small drops, and the leather feels more expensive than it is.

Pluses:

The iPod slips snugly inside the case, with no chance of the iPod falling out. The backing is leather bound, and rigid enough to prevent damage to the iPod. The flap is bound in very soft leather on the face, yet is nice and stiff on the sides. The magnetic closure is a nice touch, and holds better than I expected.

Minuses:

There is no built in screen protection, which is probably a good thing, since most built in screen protectors look horrible. If you require it, you'll have to purchase some film separately. Personally, I left the original screen protection film Apple placed on the iPod from the factory. It's clear, and works perfectly.

With the iPod in the HipCase, it's a bit hard to get to the very edges of the iPod screen with your finger. The protection is thorough, and covers the iPod all the way to the screen, if not over it a very slight bit.

For me, the belt clip is totally useless, and I would have liked to be able to remove it. I like to carry the iPod in a jacket pocket, and would have liked a totally flat case when closed. It's a minor issue, as most people probably want the clip included.

Overall, you can't go wrong with the HipCase.
