Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of DLO HipCase Leather Folio Case for iPod touch 1G, 2G, 3G (Black)

Customer Review: Very good case, but not perfect for 2G
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought a DLO case a couple of years ago for my Video iPod 5G and thought it was absolutely perfect, so when I received an iPod Touch 2G for Xmas I immediately went looking for a DLO case for it. Unfortunately, the only hip case with cover they currently make is for the Touch 1G, but I saw from other reviews that it would work for a 2G so I bought it anyway.

Overall I am satisfied with the case, but 2G owners should be aware of some limitations. Most notable is that the case covers the new volume control on the side, so you either have to slide the iPod up to access the control, or push really hard through the leather strap, or only use the on-screen volume control, which is what I do.

Also, the brightness sensor is stifled by the case to the point where the screen drastically changes brightness depending on how the device is being held at the moment. I wound up turning off the automatic sensor and just setting it to a compromise setting (which also saves battery life, BTW.)

The case is also a bit snug for a 2G. The top and bottom straps across the face of the iPod tend to pucker outward just a little bit instead of laying flat, and the frame around the screen is cozy and makes it challenging to push any buttons that are on the edge of the screen.

But all things considered, these problems are minor. I very much like the slim design, the soft leather cover, the magnetic closure, and the sturdy but low-profile clip on the back. I just wish the case came with a screen protector as some other models do. I wound up buying a matte finish film which is just great for minimizing fingerprints and smudging.

I can recommend this case to 2G owners as long as they understand it isn't perfect.

Customer Review: DLO leather case iTouch 2G 32GB
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent case, I like the soft leather cover flap, the quality etc. However, I doubt that any credit cards can/should be carried in the little pouch in this cover flap as I believe the proximity to the magnets having caused a bank card I carried to go inoperable. It had to be replaced.
Also in reference to the 2nd Gen. volume controls being covered: I left the iTouch 32GB 2nd Gen with the DLO case I got in March 09 in the plane so had to order everything again last week. Upon receipt 3 days ago I noticed that the DLO case covered the 2nd Gen volume controls. I sent an Email asking for a replacement but was advised: not possible. I called Amazon and an extremely ignorant lady handled my call. Tremendously frustrated I terminated the call and tried again. This time I was lucky and found a very helpful, pro-active gentleman who, inspite of my irritated attitude, came with the right suggestions and solution. After he offered to let me have the original case with discount or even for free (I declined as it is not the money - I want the right case: I know Amazone has it), he suggested to give careful instructions to the warehouse making sure the same mistake would not be repeated. We agreed if the same type of DLO case came again I would return both to Amazon but if the right case arived I would only return the first case. Although originally he promised to send 2nd day delivery, he sent an Email informing me that he sent overnight UPS. Case just delivered - is exactly what I need and has the opening for the 2nd Gen volume controls.

So - happy camper again. Again confirmed what difference a pro-active & common sense customer service rep. can make to both company and customer.

Customer Review: This is THE CASE to buy for your Ipod Touch - Trust Me !!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently received a 32GB Ipod Touch as a gift (yes, I'm a lucky gal) and of course, I immediately noticed how easily smudged the back of the Touch gets. And slippery, especially if you spend lots of time like me playing games. Since I do the majority of my shopping on Amazon, I bought a skin from one of the 3rd party vendors. Unfortunately, it didn't provide a snug enough fit and I also decided I wanted more protection for the big screen since I will be keeping it in my purse (along with who-knows-whatever lurks in there!). My mistake was that I searched for "iTouch" vs "Ipod Touch" and instead of this case, I found a portfolio style which again, I ended up returning due to its poor quality. Let me state that I have had good luck buying cases before for my Zune and cameras from 3rd party vendors. BUT, for the Ipod Touch, I wouldn't recommend it. The problem I figured out is that the USB port is really big plus there's an audio port as well on the bottom which seems to provide a design challenge to the smaller, less-funded companies. I actually first saw this case at Best buy for $15 more and it was only when I searched for "DLO case for Itouch" that it came up on my Amazon.com page. So, basically, I missed out on buying this "perfect" case b/c I was typing in the wrong name - DUH ! This case is exactly what I was looking for. It's made of REAL Leather, and more importantly, it protects the screen. It also provides easy access to all of the ports and you do not need to take it out to charge it (as I had to with my 2nd purchase). I am relieved to say that "I FINALLY found the perfect case for the Ipod Touch".

Customer Review: Nice looking & fits fairly well...
Summary: 4 Stars

IMO this is one of the nicest looking & feeling leather cases for the Touch. I specifically chose it because of the flip top (in order to protect the screen) & also because of the fairly open bottom (thinking I could still manage to dock it in a cradle while in the case)...

Well, needless to say the later part was wishful thinking on my part as the Touch is not dockable into a cradle while in this case (the case makes the unit a bit wider & more so also extends below the bottom of the Touch by about 1/8" - pushing it further away from the bottom of the docking cradle, hence further from the dock connector).

Out of the box it was a very nice fit, but I have noticed that after 2 weeks use that the fit is a bit looser now. This combined with the soft surface liner inside the leather case now allows the Touch to move about. This has me concerned (i.e. that it can slide in & out) as once the flip top is flipped to the open position, the top of the case is open. Accidentally turn it upside down with the flap open & your asking for a potential drop of your Touch out of the case.

For fear of this I'm now getting a cheap, thin Black Silicone Skin to put over the Touch & then slide it back into the DLO Leather Case. I similarly did this practice for my Nano & it kept it very securely within it's DLO Nano leather case (as leather does give/stretch a bit).

All in all, knowing this now - I'd still buy this case again but for that reason I'm giving it a rating of 4 out of 5...

Customer Review: Great case, but one thing is not as advertised...
Summary: 4 Stars

The difference between the pictures and reality with this case is the pocket. It's really just a little leather thing that's 5.5 centimeters or 2 3/16 inches long, not the full size plastic card pocket that the pictures depict. Kind of a bummer, since that leaves the card exposed to rub against the iPod touch's screen.

This case fits well on belts that are up to one and a half inches wide, but it doesn't work well on anything else. It will work, but getting it on and off of the belt is a real hassle. The same is true for belts that are thicker than like 1/8 inch. My dress belt is perfect for the case, but my casual jeans' belt is too big.

Also, the magnets are weak. The flap will open with the slightest provocation, like bumping into furniture or a person, also by swiping your arm against yourself for whatever reason.

As the description states, you don't have to take the iPod touch out of this case at all. However, I find that I have to take it out once every few days to clean the iPod of fingerprints and dust (this cannot be helped, so I didn't take of stars). I suppose this is partially because about an inch of the iPod touch's side is exposed on the left and right, plus all the corners are exposed; they will get scratched if you put the iPod into a crowded bag, but not if it's on your hip like it should be.

All in all, a stylish and practical case. It won't fall off of your hip and it protects the iPod fairly well. I recommend buying it.
