Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Motorized SkipDoctor by Digital Innovations (Model 1013000)Customer Review: Don't be misled by what this product does... Summary: 5 Stars
I've been reading a lot of reviews about the disk dr. the major complaint seems to be it leaves "round circular scratches"...
I'm a mechanical engineer and I work at a major electronics firm designing video player components.
The ROUND CIRCULAR SCRATCHES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THERE!!! THATS WHAT THIS THING DOES!!!! THATS HOW IT WORKS!!!!
The way it leaves the "scratches" allows the laser light to diffuse between the original scratched protective polymer layer of the disc... kind going UNDER the scratches via a scratch map.. That's the best way to describe it...
This thing works unless u have a huge GOUGE in your disc.. also, make sure you buy the MOTORIZED one, and use the lubricant sparingly... once done, dry with the cloth provided, and give a quick, thorough polishing with the polishing pad...
Also, you could avoid all this trouble in the first place if you simply put your dvd's back in their case, out of light, laying flat (Not sideways)....
For those of you who have said it made it worse, then you have probally done the following:
1) previously tried to repair the disc with tap water and/or dish soap - if you did this, forget it, buy a new disc.. no disc doctor will be able to fix it, and it COULD make it worse.. dish soap is an aggrigate and actually changes the chemical makeup of the protective polymer.. the disc doctor could potential EAT to the data area of the disc if you have "washed" your dvd...
2) your disc is so badly scratched that the scratch has penetrated the data layer of the disc.. in that case, through the disc away...
3) not using enough lubricant.. use plenty of that lubricant.. the friction created by the disc doctor will generate heat.. the lubricant will cool down the process.. if you dont use the lube, the disc will heat up, and you will get microwarping and fusing of the protective layer and data layer
4) make sure you only run it through once or twice then run your disc.. dont run it a thousand times then try it...
5) make sure the disc is clean before you run it through.. if you have dust particles on the disc when you run it, it will become abrasive...
6) change your resurfacing wheel after 20 uses at least... once the resurfacing wheel is decayed, it will become like sandpaper...
speaking of sandpaper, there's a product out there that actually offers 500 grit paper to fix your discs... DONT BUY THAT PRODUCT..
if you have a problem with this product, email me at billy_vandory@yahoo.com and I can help you get it to work...
No, I dont work for this company, but I hate reading reviews about "this product is crap and made it worse" when in fact it DOES work and damage is caused by user error..
Regards my disc friends.... And support BLUE LIGHT LASER!!
