Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Digital Innovations 10185 Skip Dr. Motorized AutoMax Scratch Repair SystemCustomer Review: RUINED MY DVD ... DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Summary: 1 Stars
We bought this to repair a very light scratch that was causing the DVD player to skip during playback,
Looking back we should have done a 'test run' with a dvd we don't use because it COMPLETELY ruined our DVD, (it buffed off the surface LEAVING long skinny figure 8 imprints around the entire disk!) The disk is no longer useable
We took the unit back to the store we bought it with the damaged DVD, they were SHOCKED and HORRIFIED at the damage.
My recommendation....keep looking and comparing reviews of other units, and if you decide to try this one, use a DVD that you do not care about to test it out! Also, tenderly remove from packaging in case you want to return, the box is designed to completely self destruct during removal.....maybe that was the companies plan since they REQUIRE the item to be in it's original packaging for returns!!!
Customer Review: Money Saver Summary: 5 Stars
I tend to be rough on my CDs/DVDs/games, so I figured I'd try to save some money by trying to repair them rather than replacing the ones that won't play anymore.
Well, this product is definitely the money saver I had hoped it would be. I have PlayStation2 games and CDs with some pretty significant scratches that previously would freeze up and refuse to play, but now work perfectly.
Depending on how deep the scratches are on your disc, you may need to run it through the machine multiple times before it will play cleanly. It took about 5 turns through the machine before one of my more badly damaged PS2 games would play smoothly, but eventually I was able to buff the scratch down enough that it won't interrupt play anymore.
I give this product 5 stars - no need to replace your discs, just run them through the Skip Dr. and get back to enjoying them.
Customer Review: Terrible on Games Summary: 2 Stars
I have many consoles, but mainly use my XBOX 360. After 2 days of playing a game disc, it stopped functioning. My first thought was to use toothpaste, which worked.
After one more day, it stopped working for good. I decided to purchase a SkipDr. to fix it, hoping it would work. When I got home, I followed the instructions carefully to clean my disc. After putting it in the XBOX, it did not work.
I thought the disc was unrepairable, so I cleaned a perfectly fine disc for the XBOX. That disc is unusable now, also. As it turns out, it broke my entire XBOX 360 console.
I wanted to find out if it was a SkipDr. defect, so I tried a DVD. The DVD worked fine, to my surprise.
I have tried every trick in the book, but cannot repair those discs. This is a great product for DVDs, but a terrible choice for gaming discs.
Customer Review: It worked for me, too! Summary: 5 Stars
I was playing Metal Gear Solid 2:Substance one day, and BAM!!!! The game stopped working. My town has a game shop where they can repair your games for a dollar. I tried there, but it STILL didn't work!
One day, I saw this while on a vacation in Florida. I was a bit skeptical, after all, it cost $40! But what the hey, I could refund it if it didn't help repair my nonworking disc. It worked. My game plays like new again.
Here's how it works: just spray entire play-side of the disc with the spray provided, stick it in the machine [with the play-side facing the wheel], wait a minute, then, when it pops out, dry the disc with cloth provided, and buff it using the little pad provided [that helps restore the shine].
It's small, lightweight, and easy to carry. I suggest to get this if you have a nonworking disc.
Customer Review: It Actually Works Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical, but after reading so many positive reviews I figured I'd give it a try. Guitar Hero III for the Wii worked for the most part, but there were certain songs that would ALWAYS cause an error, prompting you to eject the disc from the Wii. I ran it through once and tried it but still got the same error. Many of the reviews mentioned they had to try it a few times, so I ran it through a 2nd time and still had the error. 3rd times a charm, and it's working great.
Be sure to read the instructions carefully before starting. You have to spray the disc liberally with the solution so it's pretty wet. After running it through the machine, dry it off with the supplied cloth, then buff it out with the supplied smaller cloth. It leaves repeating marks on the disc, but you can still get it pretty shiny with the cloth and it seems to work fine.
