Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Delphi SA10224 SKYFi 3 Portable XM Radio Receiver with Vehicle KitCustomer Review: Great mp3 player Summary: 5 Stars
Bought one of these for $31 delivered and found it is the perfect mp3 player for me. I didn't load the napster program since I like to have control of my music and not give control to Apple or Napster. Just put your artists in a folder (with the songs you like).Load up the micro sd card. I got in over 15 artist on a 2gb micro sd. Put the micro sd in the skyfi3 and you're in business. I only load songs I really like and then play them with the "random" setting. Same as shuffle. My mp3 are ripped at 256kbps.
The sound is the best of all my mp3 players (i have an ipod). Good volume even with over the ear headphones. I have 6 micro sd cards filled and just switch them out. Sd cards are a great backup for music files.
I ended up buying a second one for spares. Battery lasts 8 hours. Kit includes car charger. My car connection is through the skyfi headphone jack and 3.5mm jack in the car stereo. Where else can you get a mp3 player for $31?
Xm? Got the demo channel fine- maybe I'll try xm later.
Customer Review: Poor Battery Life, Antenna Connector, and Constant Lockups Summary: 1 Stars
Purchased a new Skyfi3 as a gift for my wife's SUV. The Sure-Connect antenna connector does not fit the antenna (her's is a short stubby type on the rear of the SUV), so I had to hold it in place with black tape. The battery lasts about 15 minutes so I assume I got a unit with a bad battery so I will have to send it back for a replacement. Of course this unit locks up, so thanks for those who posted the Right+Power button reset. The lockup cause I found is when it searches for signal. If you have a home kit then block the antenna a few times, even if you have it in the "Aim Antenna" mode. It seems like their processor is too slow, so when it changes songs (trying to record the song details) and the unit has to search for signal, it seems to lock up. Since the unit seems to have a very weak receiver, it searches for signal a lot...as others have noted. My advice, don't buy this unit. It sounds good in the marketing descriptions, but there is a reason that so many of us have posted these warnings.
Customer Review: Solid xm and mp3 player Summary: 4 Stars
I was worried by some of the negative reviews of this receiver until I used it. Peoples biggest concern seems to be that the casing is platic instead of metal... sure it would feel nicer in your hand but is really not important. So far as lockups go, Im guessing that there was user error in the firmware update or the installation. I have 3 car kits, multiple MicroSD cards and have had NO issues. The ability to hear a song on the radio, record it, and merge it with your MP3s is effortless. It does everything its supposed to do very well and for a lot le$$ than any other player. The sure connect system works well but you still have to make sure the channel selected doesnt have anything being broadcast on it or you will hear static. My reasons for not giving it five stars: Monochrome screen, screen rotation does not allow you position the unit horizontally in either direction, plastic case. Its a great unit, and for less than $50 you cant go wrong.
Customer Review: I really want to like this unit Summary: 3 Stars
Well, it is good to know that I am not the only one experiencing lockups. The radio works well, but I am most disappointed in the software package that they are using for the mp3 playback. I loaded up a 2 GB card all set to listen to my favorite stuff. The player first takes forever to read the card. This is where most of my lockups happen. I am trying again with much less music stored, and it takes far less time. My biggest gripe is why I can't just open the folder of music and play it. In order to play the musical Wicked, I have to create a playlist for it, because there is no way for it just to play in order the way it is in the folder. I hate having to make playlists and unless you want to listen to say, all of U2's music instead of individual albums, you will have to make a playlist for every album. What a pain!
Customer Review: I hate this thing Summary: 1 Stars
I despise this radio because it is unnecessarily complicated to use. I should have bought something that just receives XM radio channels and nothing else. Instead this radio has a bunch of modes I never use and they just get in the way. It doesn't know whether to be a radio or MP3 player or recorder or whatever else it does. When I'm driving I just want to hit one of the presets and have it tune to that station without a lot of programming steps or mode changes. I can't be taking my eyes off the road just to read the display to see why it didn't do what I expected it to do. I really don't need three different levels of favorite channels and I definitely don't want it to go off somewhere else when I hit a channel preset. Why can't it be more like a regular car radio when it comes to simplicity of use? Nuff said!
