Customer Review: SkyFi3 and XM+Napster2go service

I am an existing XM subscriber and already have 3 other radios on my account. When I purchased this radio, I was under the assumption that it had full functionality with the XM+Napster2go pay by the month service. If this is why you are purchasing this particular radio, please understand that in addition to live XM radio, it can only handle playing either the tracks you've purchased through Napster, or other mp3s you've downloaded or ripped onto your PC from elsewhere. It will not play the entire Napster catalog on the fly as some of the product literature suggests (though other radios can do this!), which I found to be unfortunately very misleading.
UPDATE: After 3 weeks of owning this system, I would change my overall rating to 1 star. Even though I have installed an upgrade to the firmware, the radio freezes up almost every time it is turned on. There are times when I've used the trick of hitting the volume up key and the mode key several times in a row to reset the radio, and it will still not power up properly. I've also found that the user interface and the placement of the keys is problematic, and it's easy to hit the wrong button when you are trying to change a station.
Customer Review: Great Unit, If yours isn't, Do This...

Ok, I feel for people with a bad unit. Mine was working for two hours then locked up. I had another one arrive a few days later from another seller, it worked great! Difference was: THE FIRMWARE! I reset the first locked up unit by pressing the Volume+ button on the side while pushing the Mode (on/off) button on the front. The firmware version is shown at the bottom of the screen at startup, my first unit was version 1.03! Version 1.19 is the latest! (16 revisions of the firmware have obviously solved numerous problems) So I went to XM's firmware update page (http://fwupdt.xmradio.com/), hooked up the supplied USB cable from my computer to my SkyFi unit, clicked on the "XM Firmware Client (R2.26} (in red) at the bottom of that page and followed the simple instructions and let it do its update magic. Presto...my first unit works great now, no lockups, just smooth operations in all features. It's a great unit, just some of these have been sitting around on a shelf somewhere for a while (from the original $199.00 price days) and just need this simple fix to straighten them out. This is our first satellite radio, and are thrilled with it. Helps immensely on long trips out of state, and while commuting to job (30 minutes). $30 Amazon price is $100+ lower than local store price. Many station choices - we like many of the music stations, the comedy channels, baseball games, and sports talk. Love no commercials on music stations. Paid over $200 for professional installation in our van (newer vehicle) - looks great, sounds great. Bought another car kit ($17) from Amazon and installed it myself. Sounds great, looks OK, but I mounted it low on console so visible wires are minimal. Higher mount location would mean more wire showing. Was easy to install myself, and SureConnect connection to car radio antenna was easy and sounds great. Don't have Aux input to use, nor a cassette player. For $30 for radio and car kit, it's a steal. Found a code on the internet for a XM subscription discount, and used it to get a $77 annual subscription from XM, versus $12.95 per month. Only regret is paying so much for professional installation in van.Customer Review: customer service is a joke

Radio takes alot out of you when trying to deal with XM "listener care"
skyfi 3 has lots of bells and whistles but have fun trying to dial them in. thats why XM is dumping them for a low price, delphi made another bad product. Once XM gets your money and overcharges you for socalled 3 month prepay and 6.99 a month for additional radio lies, your on your own. the best way to deal with this radio is have it professionally installed with an FM direct module (i installed this myself) and play with it using the manual. the asian listener care personnel are zero help in any category. this is true for and part of XM. 800-XMRADIO gets you only to the phillipines and have fun trying to get thier broken english, frustration level......98 out of 100

I own the SkyFi, SkyFi2 and the SkyFi3... the first two where great, the SkyFI3 is an unreliable piece of junk.
The features are great, such as the backlight auto turn off, the recording time, the ablilty to record songs for later.... BUT, since I have owned it (about 1 1/2 years), I have had it lock up countless times. Each time you have to reset it which will cause you to have to reconfigure it. What is worse is if you have any songs saved and you have to reset it, well, kiss those goodbye. They will show up still, but they won't play.
In addition to the above, it will sometimes just erase all of your pre-sets. What is really bad, is when the pre-sets get erased, then the unit will not save new ones you try to set. You can reset the unit, and it will still do the same thing. What is really strange, is after a while, it will save the presets... but good luck guessing when that will happen.
Do yourself a favor; avoid the SkyFi3, get the SkyFi2 or look for another receiver.
