Customer Review: BEST FEATURES IN AN XM RADIO NOW, BUT NOT RELIABLE

I've been an XM user for only three months but in such period I've owned three radios: Xpress Xm Receiver with Car Kit, Skyfi3 and the Pioneer Gex-Inno2Bk Inno Portable Xm Satellite Radio. I really liked how the Xpress unit has performed -- it's a workhorse-- and I thought it would be good to get more portability and features through a memory expandable unit to store MP3s and listen to XM outside of the home/car. One of my main motivations was also to listen to stored programming on-the-go.
So, I upgraded last week to the Skyfi3 but it died on me on day 2 and I have consequently bought the Inno which I'm still getting familiar with. Also, I bought Delphi Home Kit for SKYFi3 XM Satellite Radio Receiverand Myfi¿ Headset with Built-in Xm Antennafor the Skyfi3 from Amazon, but they haven't arrived (and when they do, my radio may be going through peaks and valleys again). So, I only keep my XM subscription active for one radio now, the Inno. I estimate that if my Skyfi3 does not work reliably and ongoingly that I would lose about $200 I've invested in cradles, portable antennas and the unit itself -- not to mention my TIME and disappointment (more than I planned to spend). For these reasons, I'll just have to eat the loss (or try to return stuff by mail if possible).
I don't know why my Skyfi3 behaves the way it does, nor do I have the technical expertise to explain or rationalize why or how it happens. Notice how I say *my* Skyfi3 because I don't know if this happens with all units. By reading the posts here, I would imagine it happens to many people with similar units. I can tell you that I did upgrade the software in the radio but I don't think this is the cause but I haven't entirely ruled-out my hooking the unit up to my PC computer as a cause or contributor to the problem. I also loaded my playlists and liked how I was able to listen to MP3 songs in my car without an iPod installation. Also, I like the ability to listen to my iPod/iPhone through the Skyfi3 car cradle. (My car is a 2002 Mustang and does not have MP3 hookups and it would cost me about $600 from Ford to get an iPod set-up installed in my car). I also like how the Skyfi3 (and the Inno) work with the XM + Napster website and software but I'm only at my 14-day free trial version. - I'm still not sure about the paid Napster concept or whether it adds any value over iTunes.
By far, Skyfi3 has the best features for me, even surpassing the Inno. However, my Skyfi3 is unreliable: it dies on me abruptly and it won't turn on at all for hours (24 hours) each time it dies. This happens back-to-back: it's on; it dies; then, after trying to turn-it on for so many times, it comes on and maintains the previously programmed settings. Therefore, although I would like to make this my primary (or only) radio, I don't trust it will work for me reliably for more than a few hours each time.
I could write what makes this a superior radio for me over the Inno, but that's beside the point. Or, even, I could write about the specific merits of the Skyfi3, when it works, but that would be moot as well given my experience with the product. I tried getting assistance from Delphi customer support but I only got the call center recording that they were busy assisting other customers and never got to me in about 45 minutes to an hour each time I tried to get assistance; so, I've given up. I read in the Delphi website that they're going through bankruptcy but that such process would not affect their products/services. I'm disappointed with my Skyfi3 and Delphi. If my retailer or Delphi were to swap my Skyfi3 for a reliable radio, I would activate it with XM and keep it for sure.
I must say: I really like the XM Radio programming. I'm a bit concerned on the future of XM (but not of Stellite Radio) because of the pending merger with Sirius, which will likely make XM, the entity, disappear and perhaps some of the programming. However, I kind of trust the XM Radio promise that *no radio will become obsolete due to the merger* but I certainly would hope that Sirius maintains the XM Radio promise. It's only based on this that I keep purchasing these products, although I do have a budget for entertainment and would not like to see that my investments (products) would become obsolete by the Sirius merger. I had the XM set up professionally installed in my car and I get awesome sound in my car but I've only used it here in Los Angeles area. I also own a Delphi Sa10221-11B1 Premium Sound System For Xm Satellite Radio for the XM radio but will have to return it because I bought it primarily for the Skyfi3 and it does not come with a cradle for the Inno, although I could order one by mail.
