Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of CLOSEOUT: DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand - New Open BoxCustomer Review: Dell 2007WFP product listing shows the wrong graphic Summary: 4 Stars
This review is actually aimed at Amazon, which incorrectly bounced a comment that the product had the wrong picture. The pictures (as in shown in this review panel or the high level selection panel) at
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/105-9681712-1955612?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=dell+2007wfp&x=0&y=0
are wrong. They show the wrong Dell screen, one with a 4:3 aspect ratio (standard TV aspect ratio). This product is 1680:1050 which is much wider (16:9 aspect ratio).
FYI -- the pictures inside the detailed article are correct -- the ones that are wrong are in the panels where one selects from a variety of digital TVs.
BTW, the product is a great product -- surprisingly good picture ... but that's not the issue here. I tried to address this, but got this reply (which is flat out incorrect).

Customer Review: Can't find anything like it anymore Summary: 5 Stars
This monitor was the last of its kind. After this, Dell monitors (all of them) took a downturn. People no longer care about picture quality or color reproduction as long as their monitor is bigger than the guy's (or gal's) next to them. They are all crappy TN panels now with great response times, but if you move your head 1/4" the colors change drastically because the viewing angles are horrible and the color sucks to boot.
2007wfp Pros:
1. This monitor has extremely fast response times. I use it for gaming and there's no ghosting whatsoever.
2. The color is beautiful. With most LCDs, you have to tweak with the color a bunch to even get a somewhat decent picture. This monitor had no problems like this...I plugged it in and the color was great. I'm a web designer and one of my many criteria for a monitor was good color. This monitor definitely passed the test.
3. The size is great. With most 22-24" monitors, they take the same panel and stretch it out a few inches. The result? Take a small picture and blow it up to 1 1/3 its original size. It looks like junk. The 20" screen on this monitor has a perfect picture because Dell didn't try to fool anyone by making the screen bigger.
cons:
1. In general (not with my model) there are some problems with back lights bleeding through more in certain areas than others.
2. Banding. With fine gradients, looking closely enough will reveal that the gradient is not smooth, but has bands running through it. This is ignorable.
3. By default, the monitor has an "auto color adjust" thing. It changes your colors and brightness and just every time the screen changes significantly. This is extremely obnoxious, but can be turned off through the menu.
All in all, the best < 30" LCD money can no longer buy (except on ebay). If you have a chance to get one and don't easily get penis envy about monitor size, get it.
Customer Review: A Caution To Snow Leopard Users . . . Summary: 4 Stars
If you are a Mac user, this monitor is a good IPS display technology alternative to buying an Apple Cinema Display. These displays calibrate nicely, especially if you are using the System Preferences / Display Calibration Assistant in Mac OS 10.4 Tiger or Mac OS 10.5 Leopard.
The Apple & Dell IPS LCD displays don't have external contrast adjusters. With the IPS LCD, there is no contrast adjustment on the display or in the Mac OS. It stays in the right contrast all the time. Only Brightness and RGB levels can be adjusted externally as well as selecting PC Mode and Mac Mode. So with Tiger and Leopard, the Contrast is about right so that I can begin the calibration process, starting with adjusting the External Brightness Control on the monitor to get the black levels to match, in System Preferences / Display Calibration Assistant.
But in Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, the default-fixed contrast setting is too bright in the black and shadowed areas, so it's impossible to manually adjust the brightness to get the black levels to match in System Preferences / Display Calibration Assistant. So, all of the monitors' external controls are functioning in Snow Leopard but Snow Leopard's new default brightness is beyond the Dell monitor's external adjustment range as it is with most older Apple CRT displays and most other non-Apple third-party Mac-friendly LCD displays.
So this monitor is great for calibrating with Mac OS 10.4 Tiger or Mac OS 10.5 Leopard but Snow Leopard will render this monitor un-usable. It's almost like Apple is treating all third party-non-Apple displays like "Jail-Broken" iPhones.
Customer Review: My wife is jealous over my monitor! Summary: 5 Stars
I have two of these monitors and love them. One I bought myself and use at home, the other I requested at work to use because I liked it so much. I have a Dell Latitude E6500 at work and a Dell latitude D820 at home. I use both with a docking station and the monitor and love the setup.
Pros
1. Super easy set-up. (1) Connect the cables, (2) Put the laptop on the dock and start her up, (3) Go to the Display Properties and adjust the properties to the way you want (I like my laptop on the left as the main screen so I can use the monitor to its fullest for videos, reviewing work, and using spreadsheets.)
2. After using the monitor for spreadsheets it is hard to look at them on just my laptop--I almost feel claustrophobic looking at them just on a laptop, even through my laptop screen is a good size itself.
3. The height adjustment works well for me too. I like to adjust it so that it is similar height to my laptop (on the bottom) so that I can have as seamless a view as possible from laptop to monitor.
4. Takes up very little desk space--love this feature--so I can do a lot more with the space I have.
Cons
I really haven't had any issues except that once in a while, my laptop doesn't remember the settings and I have to go back in and re-set them, but that is only occasionally and not a big problem.
I'm not a tech guy, so this monitor works great for me. I'd definitely recommend this product.
Customer Review: Good deal on an S-IPS monitor! Summary: 5 Stars
This monitor is one of the best models you can buy for the money! The S-IPS monitors are getting rare these days and are more and more replaced by the cheaper to manufacture TN-Panels. S-IPS panel monitors are known to have excellent viewing angles and color reproduction. They are most suitable for photo/ video editing.
The earlier models (Rev. 02) of the 2007wfp monitors had some problems with banding issues. These issues seem to be mostly fixed in the Rev. 03 models. There have been 2 different panels used in this monitor. S-PVA and S-IPS. The S-PVA panels are also very good, but have slightly different specs.
To find out what panel your 2007wfp has, you can go into the monitor setup menu:
1- Turn off your screen
2- Press simultaneously the 'Menu' and '+' button of the screen.
3- While holding the 2 buttons, press now the 'Power' button.
4- Once the screen in ON, unpress the 3 buttons.
5- Just press '-' button.
You can run a search on the panel code that is listed in the menu and find out what you received!
Best of luck!
