I recently bought a new digital camera that requires compact flash cards instead of sdhc cards. I started to buy new Transcend compact flash cards, but found in the reviews of the card, some buyers complaining that the Transcend cards sometimes suddenly stop working. While I had no trouble with the Transcend shdc cards in the past, this made me cautious enough to initially only buy 2 compact flash cards. And, wanting to be prepared in case of an emergency, I also bought this adapter to use with my existing sdhc cards in case of an emergency.
Since I did not buy this adapter for normal use I did not expect too much. All I wanted was for the adapter to work with my current (class 10) sdhc cards if needed, and it does that well enough. It is slow, but it works.
The 400x compact flash cards will allow me to record HD movies without any visual indication of buffer buildup (as did the class 10 sdhc cards in my previous camera), but the adapter and class 10 shdc card will only allow me to make a 4 second movie before the camera stops filming. As I said, the adapter is slow.
Single shot raw pictures take an extended time to write to the disk, but they do get written. Continuous shooting of raw or jpg stills take a really extended time to write to the disk, but they do get written.
In summary, the adapter does exactly what I wanted it to do - substitute for a normal compact flash card in an emergency. I had hoped that using fast sdhc cards would allow fast transfer of data to the disk, but that does not seem to be the case and I assume that the transfer mechanism within the card is the reason. Still, it does work and I will continue to carry the card and extra sdhc cards around until I have enough compact flash cards to feel comfortable. I won't be taking any HD movies if I am using the adapter, but I will be able to take stills and that is what I normally do, so I am satisfied with the purchase.
