Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Vista Explorer 60-Inch Lightweight Tripod with Tripod BagCustomer Review: Perfect little tripod, great value Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased this tripod over a year ago for use with our SLR and HD video cameras. It is surprisingly well-built for the price and offers all the maneuverability we were looking for. It's fully extended height is remarkable for such a small package. Adjustments are straightforward, though some care needs to be taken to get things "just right" so that you can pan or sweep smoothly when needed. It works with our relatively heavy digital SLR as well as it does with our very light HD video and small point-and-shoot. It collapses to an tight, small package. The carrying bag is handy and keeps things neat.
We have used this to video an outdoor graduation (on uneven ground...it leveled perfectly), an indoor wedding and lots of still shots in-between. While not as super solid as much more expensive professional-grade tripods, it is perfect for the amateur or pro-am user who needs a reliable, well-built and feature-appropriate tripod.
Excellent value for the dollar.
Customer Review: Very good balance between cost and quality Summary: 5 Stars
I am a decidedly amateur photographer, so my needs are fairly basic. I bought this tripod to be able to take group pictures and to not take so many blurry ones. It's easy to use, from attaching the camera to setting the height and angle of the shot. Setup doesn't take long, and the adjustable legs give good height and work well on uneven ground. The bag that comes with the tripod is handy, too.
The tripod is reasonably lightweight... at least for the first ten minutes you carry it. It works great at scenic overlooks and on short trails, but it can be a bit of a burden on more difficult hikes. I soon got into the habit of leaving it in the car for any hike longer than one hour. I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem for all you fitness freaks out there.
I'd say this tripod is a bargain, especially for first-time buyers who don't want to go overboard and get one aimed at professionals, but also don't want to buy something so cheap they regret it.
Customer Review: Potential... Summary: 3 Stars
Never having bought a tripod of this size, I was looking for a budget unit that would suffice for my limited tripod needs. I have worked with professional tripods but certainly wasn't expecting that level of quality from a $25 unit.
At 1st, I was somewhat disappointed in the movements. All the adjustments were "sticky". I couldn't get a full 90 degrees on the mount nor could I readily see the level blow the mount. Overall, this was no more than a novelty version of a real tripod.
Never being one to leave things alone when they come apart, I went after the joints with a file, sandpaper and some grease. After about an hour, the biggest issues were resolved. Still a low cost tripod but at least now it was also functional.
Pro's: Handle, hook and removable camera mount.
Con's: No points on the feet, hard to see level, poor fit and finish.
I got what I paid for.
Customer Review: great, cheap tripod Summary: 5 Stars
i also got this tripod with my camera on a promotional offer and didnt expect much but i was surprised in how versatile and sturdy it is!
you can point it in any direction and orient the camera how you like. big plus for me because i like to point my camera at the sky.
the locking mechanisms allow you to control how tight or loose you want to be able to move your camera very well. at the appropriate tightness, you can move the camera very smoothly and it will stay in place when you let go, but make sure its not too loose. all the tightning nuts can all be adjusted by hand too, including the piece that connects to the camera(ive seen some tripods that require a screwdriver).
this tripod is sturdy, and can be set up very quickly. and it packs up nicely. i can attach it to my rebel camera bag with no problems.
Im very happy with this tripod.
Customer Review: Great starter tripod Summary: 4 Stars
I got this as a starter tripod to use with my Nikon D40. It serves its purpose well for taking longer exposures of still objects, for group portraits that I'm supposed to be in, and for self-portraits.
What it doesn't work so well for is HDR photography, something I'd been hoping to do. t's just not quite stable enough, so the photos come out at slightly different angles. No big loss, but something to consider.
I also tried a bit of video with my family's point and shoot, and the tripod moved very smoothly. I don't know how well it would work with a true video camera, but I can't imagine it being terrible.
Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase. It's fairly sturdy, it looks good, and it comes with a nice little bag so I can carry it around. I'm happy with my purchase, but I'd probably buy a more expensive (and better) one if I could do it over.
