it works as long the power to the outlet this item is connected to did not get cut like in power outages in neighborhood. After an outage, this item is useless. Motion sensor mechanism will cease to function. Good for paper weight. If you also have an outlet that is controlled by a switch, for shutting power off -- it will render this uSwitch useless. It died twice and I have to get replacements.
