Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of DataStor UNBCPX Three-Fan Notebook Cooling PadCustomer Review: Cheap, but loud and inefficient Summary: 1 Stars
This is the worst thing I have ever bought.
There are 3 fans that seemed to be in the perfect position for my Toshiba Satellite, but it turns out that in less than a month, the fans start making weird, extremely loud noises one by one. It's not just a "bzzz" sound that normal fans make, but it's more disturbing, like something were stuck in the fans. At first I could turn it over and move it around a little to make the noise go away, but after a while I could do nothing to prevent it. The only solution I could find was to put a little piece of cardboard to stop the fans from moving..I just left one working, which is the one right underneath the battery. Since there's only 1 fan, heat dissipation is ineffective, and this fan has also started to make the same weird noise again. Once the last fan fails I am going to buy a better one, maybe more expensive, but definitely more worth the money than this one. This fan doesn't deserve a cent.
Customer Review: Feels flimsy but works OK Summary: 4 Stars
While this cooling pad feels cheap & flimsy, it does the job. The lightweight material actually comes in handy since I have been keeping it hooked up to my laptop nearly all the time and I just carry the two around together. The USB cord is the right length since my Apple MacBook Pro (MBP) has ports on both sides. However, the chill pad itself is a little too small for my 15" MBP. (It's a much better fit under my IBM ThinkPad.) Additionally, the MBP heats up so much, my cooling needs are probably too much for this chill pad to handle; although, it has made some difference in the heating problem and at least now I can sit the cooling pad on my lap instead of the oh-so-warm laptop! I've used this cooling pad consistently for several weeks since I bought it and have experienced no issues with it. Overall, I'd say it's a good purchase for the money I spent.

Ok, I found that my Dell Latitude was overheating (in Linux only, oddly enough) and suddenly turning off. I've had it for years and this was never a problem -- maybe running Linux from a USB Flash drive has something to do with it.
Anyway, the Datastor cooler seems to have solved the problem. .
It doesn't fit that solidly on the Latitude, so I have to worry about it sliding off. I often set it on my bed, and the bed has a way of bouncing from time to time.
Also, I do an odd thing -- I often pick up the Latitude and read it almost like you would hold up a book and read it. But with the Datastor, I then have to make sure it sets back on it in the correct position.
So, it isn't a perfect solution, and I'm not sure I will continue to use it. It's a nice interim fix, though.
Customer Review: Not enough airflow Summary: 2 Stars
This is my 2nd laptop fan. My first one, another brand, eventually stopped working because of an electrical issue. I only paid $15 for my first laptop fan. Seeing another so inexpensive did not make me wonder about quality. But maybe I should have.
These fans are not terribly powerful. The design of the unit itself is unbelievably inefficient. The air blows up at the laptop, and it gets trapped as there is no outlet for the air. I can compare it to the other fan I had -- that one had air flow upwards to cool off the bottom of the laptop and then shoot out the sides of the cooling unit. It was much more efficient.
Please, carefully look at the design of this unit. Look how the fans blow air upwards... and then where is it supposed to go?
I'm buying a different one right now.
Customer Review: Stay away till they improve the power cord Summary: 5 Stars
Original review - read on below for updated review - Works great so far. Has three fans which do the job for my 15 inch laptop. Fits those 12-13 inch laptops perfectly, it works great for me anyways. Have it for over two weeks now and my laptop no longer gets hot - and I have quite a lot of servers running on my laptop- it used to get hot and stay hot - but now everything works great.
Got it from another seller itholic for 8 bucks plus 5 for shipping and for the combined 13 bucks, couldnt have asked for a better product to keep my laptop running smoothly.
Will edit this comment if I notice any changes in this product.
UPDATE!!!The power cable is too loose and does not hold well into the cooler. Avoid buying this unless the improve the power cord. Works well when it does hold up.
