Customer Review: Kool Pad Works! Depends on Laptop Vents & Positioning
Summary: 4 Stars

When I got this item, I thought it was a joke. The packaging is not impressive. The 3-fan design and style concept are great. However, I was somewhat disappointed at the beginning with the light-weight, flimsy look of the pad material and the cable's kinda wobbly usb end. I installed it anyways. When I placed the laptop directly on top of the pad, my laptop still felt hot. I thought this thing was junk. I have a Dell Latitude d520 with 2 odd, left vents underneath --top and off center. After moving both things around everywhere on a mission to make it work, I figured out the following: the laptop vents should directly fall on the pad vents (as much as possible) for the Cooling pad to work!!! In my case, I have to position my laptop to the right of the cooling pad, leaving an inch of the pad exposed on one side and another inch of my laptop dangling. It works for me this way. Pad keeps laptop cool but then I got upset because the LCD screen remains warm. DUH. Friends tell me screens are supposed to get reasonably warm when in use. So this product is a great value for the $16.50 price including shipping. I've seen similar items at Target, Office Depot, Office Max, Circuit City. I'm convinced this item is of better design, comparable quality and better price!

Customer Review: not the greatest but not the worst either.
Summary: 3 Stars

i should say, im sort of addicted to the internet, by saying thst i mean my laptop is on 22 of 24 hours, so i really needed a laptop cooler that would keep my laptop nice and cool. before i bought this notebook cooler, i purchased a targus notebook chill pad from staples which cost me like $32.00, of course its cheaper on amazon. i would recommend that on over this on, it works much better. im a bit confused with this product. sometimes it works perfectly well and at other times it does nothing to prevent my laptop from over heating. the targus chill pad was really good at cooling my laptop and keeping it cool. the reason why i bought this one was because it had 3 fans and one of them was located on the upper left side, and it was the perfect location because when i sat my laptop on it, the fan was right underneath my laptop fan, but for some reason it doesnt always seem to cool my laptop..i find that odd. oh and another problem with this cool pad is the plastic over the fans are not heavy at all. sometimes the weight from my laptop pushes down on it and it makes this regurgitating noise..but thats wen u press down to hard. its not a bad product but i think u'll be better off with the targus.

Customer Review: Simply Amazing!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am usually not inclined to write reviews but simply had to for this product. First, I ordered it on Monday and it arrived today! Once out of the box and comfortably under my HP DV9000 laptop, I plugged it into a USB port adn powered it up. The three fans are super quiet (the fan in my laptop is louder!) and they almost immediately started lowering the temperature of my laptop.

I know most people are concerned with the temperature of their laptops while resting on their legs. I solved that problem with one of the Hampton Inn's laptop desks (a nice leather cushion under a wooden desktop). My temperature issue was with the wrist rest on the laptop. I have two 120GB hard drives under the wrist rest and the temperature can get hot enough that I'm unable to put my hands there for more than a few minutes at a time. The DataStor cooling pad has done the trick in lowering the temperature to the point where I'll be able to go hours without having to worry about burning my hands!

I highly recommend this product! I may have to even order a few spares!

I'll drop back to update the review with durability results once I start hitting the road with the cooling pad.

Customer Review: Quiet and Chill
Summary: 5 Stars

Works better than expected. It is extremely quiet, provides lots of circulation with 3 fans, and most importantly it keeps my laptop cool. Prior to this purchase, my laptop would burn up in a matter of minutes... not anymore. I originally thought it would be too small for my 17" widescreen Thinkpad, but it actually fits it very good. The USB power is the right length and not too long. No complains. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. Nothing more, nothing less.

UPDATE: About 2 months ago after 1.5 years of use, I began to notice an increase in fan noise. It gradually increased to a loud hum and became unusable. With a little bit of investigation and some 3-in-1 lubricating oil, the chill pad is back in operation and quieter than ever. It's simple... On the back side of the chill pad, remove the large product label and put a small drop of lubricating oil on each of the exposed fan spindles. That's it... just like new now. I'm still giving it 5 stars because I think a little bit of preventative maintenance is reasonable considering it has moving parts.

Customer Review: A good deal
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought one of these in April 2008. It lasted until October. Technically it still works, but the fans have become very loud and I'm not sure it's actually working very well. So, I decided to order two more (one for my home laptop, one for my work laptop). People may think it's weird that I'm giving something 4 stars that I had to replace after 6 months, but it worked really well while it lasted and it's really not that expensive to replace. I love how it sucks out the heat from my laptops. I notice that when I have my laptops on but the Cooling Pads off, my bedroom is significantly warmer than when have the Cooling Pads on. Also, it's wonderful to have it on when you're putting your laptop on your lap. It definitely keeps your legs cool. Now that I have the new ones, I realize how silent they are. So, I guess if it starts getting loud you know it's time for a replacement. By the way, I'm not sure if it's evident from the description, but you basically just plug it into one of your USB ports.
