Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of DVI Gear HDMI Cable 2M (6 Feet)Customer Review: am speechless!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I didnt think I would write such a long review about a cable - after all it's just a cable!! Here I am, with probably the longest commentary I ever wrote :)
I consider myself a tech guy, and I pride myself in searching around on the net before buying just about anything. That is how I found a 15$ HDMI cable about a year ago at Amazon, when Monster was selling at $75-100. I bought the HDMI cable then from Amazon for my Dish Network HD receiver. It worked fantastically well. I now needed one more cable when I bought a new AV receiver (sending all inputs to the receiver and then one cable going from receiver to TV).
I knew HDMI is digital and it is *usually* all or nothing. But I was skeptical about this $0.15 cable ($5 with shipping). Then I thought, hey it costs less than a quarter pounder at McDonalds anyway. So I ordered one.
I received it on the 4th day. It came in the worst packaging I have ever seen - just a transparent plastic cover in a USPS yellow cover. But except the packaging, everything about this cable is awesome. It feels very well-made, it is quite thick (thicker than my 15$ cable). I used it to connect my 1080i upconverting DVD player to the receiver. The setup was a no-brainer, everything worked perfectly. Picture quality is as good as any other cable I have used/seen.
I saw some other reviews that talked about how it doesnt work with some Sony TV/BlueRay players. I am not sure it talks poorly about the cable or the needlessly expensive Sony devices. My HDMI1.3 receiver (there arent many out there that supports this standard) had no complaints with this cable.
Dont hesitate, if you are looking for an HDMI cable go for it. Worst case, you paid for a quarter pounder that you didnt eat :)
In case it helps, here is my setup - Onkyo SR605, Mitsubishi 1080p DLP 57", RCA 1080i upconverting player, DishNetwork Vip 211 HD receiver.
Customer Review: Please let others know about these cables! Summary: 5 Stars
I was one of those Monster Cable fanatics who linked everything (TV, dvd player, receiver, e.t.c) to the Monster Cables after buying them from Circuit City or Best Buy. I was just about to splurge on the Monster Cable hdmi cables but I rushed/logged on to Amazon (as we all should!) to check on their reviews first. I was startled to find these hdmi cables going for $5 and some change, (I got mine from abacus 24-7, as I had previously purchased reasonably priced products from them before) while I was previously debating on whether to buy Monster or Rocketfish. After reading the reviews (950 members cannot be wrong!) I bought them , tested them and they worked perfect! They are the 1.3 version, and are clearly listed as such (previous negative reviews say that they are not 1.3). Shipping is very fast, about three days! (if you can wait that long) I would recommend them to anyone buying a hdtv or ps3, and also let others know about them. This is because, most customers (me included) buy their electronics from the above (and other big) stores, and are 'forced' to buy the other expensive cables due to lack of knowledge about other hdmi cables from other manufacturers, and most importantly, due to the fact that they are the only cables on sale at these stores. If you only want the very best, or want to have the reassurance of buying quality, then buy Monster. Many people are buying hdtvs now, or have been using composite or component cables, buying a new receiver/dvd player/ps3 with hdmi ports, or are subscribing to cable or satellite offering many HD channels, thus requiring a converter box with hdmi connection. They need to hear about this product and save themselves some money. By the way, while installing the hdmi cables, I dusted off my numerous Monster cables and surge protector that have been gathering dust behind my tv, hidden from view! (as they should)
Customer Review: The Final Review -MUST READ- IMPORTANT Summary: 2 Stars
Well I've Seen and read all the other reviews, and i don't normally post a review but i felt compelled to do so in this case. I had ordered these cables and they arrived very quickly with prompt shipping, so i was very pleased to start off with. When i opened the cable it seemed to be decent quality, so to say the least i was happy when i plugged it in and it worked.
Although as in most cases you get what you pay for and in this case the metal connector on the end ended up coming out of the piece and breaking the whole hdmi cable while it was simply plugged into the back of my tv after about a month. This was a huge inconvenience as i had to get pliers and take the piece out of the slot because it was stuck.
I then went out and ordered a better quality cable, and in the mean time i used the hi-def cables that come with the hd cable box and to my amazement they looked 100x better then the hdmi cable did. As they filled the whole screen with hi-def television, eliminating the need to zoom while using the cheap cable which caused the picture to be crappy, just so i can see what is going on.
In Conclusion the reason i give it 2 starts is because all in all it is not a horrible product, but after all it is a 1 dollar + shipping hdmi cable and compared to the more expensive one is does lack a lot of important things and quality. I know a lot of people say well hey it's only a buck rite? But in my own personal opinion either spend a couple more bucks say around $15... To get something of decent quality or you are going to have to keep buying these cheap cables. All in all product did work and provided a pretty good picture so i guess if your just looking to de-clutter you wires or leave some space for hi-def gaming cords then this in not that bad of a deal. Otherwise i would spend a couple more bucks.
Customer Review: Works, but flawed (not shielded) Summary: 3 Stars
First, this cable can transfer an HDMI audio and video signal from a source (I've tested with a Comcast HD DVR and a DVD player) to a TV.
Second, this cable is not shielded.
What this means, is that this cable can do most of what one costing 20 times as much can do: provide a clear digital connection. With a digital connection, the quality of the cable isn't very relevant, as you just need to get the signal across, not get it across in good shape. Therefore, a quality expensive cable is a waste of money.
The downside is that an unshielded cable does 2 things: accepts interference and causes interference. What this means is if you lay the HDMI cable too close to the power cable of the device or another cable carrying signal, it may pick up interference. A little interference, no big deal, the beauty of digital signals is that picture quality is the same. Enough interference, though, and the signal can't get through properly. I saw this happen with my HD cable box, and was able to cure it by moving the HDMI and power cable farther apart. Until I realized the problem, though, I was getting no picture.
The other problem with an unshielded cable is it causes interference. When my DVD player is turned on, it throws enough interference through the HDMI cable that my (also unshielded) OTA HD antenna cable receives interference. Turn the DVD off, and it's fine again.
Bottom line: if you're ok with having to carefully setup this cable so it doesn't receive too much interference from other sources, or send too much interference into other sources, this cable will do a great job and will be a steal. If you're not the DIY type, you might be frustrated with this cable. You'll get a better quality cable if you pay way more, but for me, this is well worth it.
Customer Review: Excellent quality, excellent price! Summary: 5 Stars
This product is all you need for an HDMI cable. They do exactly what they are supposed to do. They transmit a digital signal between your components and your TV.
Don't buy into the hype surrounding Monster cables and the ridiculous prices they charge for them at Best Buy and other big box stores. Here is how it went for me.
I went into Best Buy to buy my HD DVD player. The salesperson asked me if I needed any HDMI cables. I hadn't yet received my order of these cables, and was going to need one more than I had ordered anyway.
I said, "I'm interested if you have any that aren't stupidly priced." He gave me a sideways looks and said lead me to a typical Monster stand. He held up a 4 Ft. HDMI cable that was marked as $79.
I shook my head and said, "There's no reason to pay that price, no thanks. I'll use the cable I already have."
He responded, "Well, is the one you have 1.3 compliant?" I thought for a second and said, "I believe it is, but I'll check." I ended the conversation there because indeed he had asked a question I couldn't fully answer. When I got home I looked up some information and was pleased to find that the salesman was indeed full of it.
The 1.3 standard is a standard for the HD components. It is a standard assigned to the port the cable plugs into, not the cable itself. There is no more wiring in a cable from Monster marked as "1.3 compliant" than there is in one of these "cheap" cables.
These will do the job and you won't be disappointed. If you have any video problems with these you might have a bad cable or the problem is most likely in the components you are using. I haven't had to return anything to this vendor, but I understand they are very easy to work with.
