Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DUB-H7 High Speed USB 2.0 7-Port HubCustomer Review: My Experience: Underpowered and Unreliable Summary: 1 Stars
I was excited to have this 7-Port USB 2.0 hub until I discovered that it cannot handle more than four devices reliability and it cannot handle any high power devices, such as an external hard drive at all. I tried USB powered externals (Seagate 100 GB) and external hard drives with their own power supply (Western Digital 250 GB) It just doesn't recognize these. My Seagate 100 GB external started making that funny noise it makes when it is not getting enough power.
I also had trouble with my Linksys transmitter for my wireless Skype phone. It worked fine when plugged directly into one of the computer USB ports, but would not work at all with the D-Link Hub.
I would think the unit was defective, except that the mouse, Cruzer USB drive, and keyboard that I have plugged into it work fine.
This device has its own power supply, but it doesn't seem to be able to handle the load. I would not recommend it. I plan to replace mine with another brand.
Customer Review: Works flawlessly & priced well. Who wants more? Summary: 5 Stars
***** Stars!
This is a fantastic hub for the price! I have both USB 1.1 devices and USB 2.0 devices plugged into it and the USB 2.0 devices operate at USB 2.0 speed without any problems.
It is a misconception that it will only operate at USB 1.1 if you plug USB 1.1 devices into it. Perhaps some of the so-called "reviewers" here think once you buy a computer, all you have to do is occasionally run Windows Update, lol. You do need to go to your computer's maker, and update the Bios, drivers and the like at least twice a year, to be prudent.
I'm quite happy with this hub. It has allowed me to plug my 2 printers, external hard drive, external DVD RW, wireless keyboard and mouse into it, and tuck it all away, out-of-sight, freeing the back of my computer from a jumbled mess!
I have used a D-Link Router & wireless G set-up for almost two years now, without ever encountering a problem. I am sold on D-Link quality.
Customer Review: Good for USB 2.0; Bad for USB 1.1 Summary: 3 Stars
Pro: With the rebate, this is an excellent price for a USB 2.0 hub. I've had up to 6 USB 2.0 devices connected to it without any problems. I've had it for almost a year.
Con: Does not work well with USB 1.1 devices. I connected a USB 1.1 scanner to the hub. For about one out of every 6 scans, the scanner will lock up and I have to reboot the PC to restart it. If I connect the USB 1.1 scanner through a USB 1.1 hub, then it locks up about once every 25 scans. In any case, ALL the USB devices slow down significantly when the USB 1.1 scanner was connected - It didn't matter whether or not I was using the scanner. My USB 1.1 printer also causes the slowdown. My solution was to wire my USB 1.1 hub directly to my PC and have it only drive my USB 1.1 devices.
As a side note, disconnecting the USB 1.1 device while the PC was on did not improve the speed. The USB 1.1 device had to be disconnected before the PC is powered on to get maximum speed.
Customer Review: Problems while using with iMac Summary: 2 Stars
I have had this 7-port hub for a couple of months now and am using it with an iMac. Its performance has been erratic. I had all my peripherals plugged to it - printer, camera, keyboard-mouse and my iPod sync cable.
It worked fine for a couple of weeks. Then the keyboard-mouse started failing to detect on startup. Unplugging and replugging would solve the problem but it was not worth the trouble for every time. Then the iPod refused to sync through the hub. So now I am back to using the ports on my computer.
So I'm not happy with the product. Either I got a bad piece or Mac users should stay away from this USB Hub.
I'm unhappy because I was a believer in D-Link. I have a D-Link wireless router that has been working flawlessly for over 2 years now.
Follow Up: I contacted customer service and they sent me a replacement that has been working well since..... so I guess I just had a bad part.. nothing to do with computer compatibility.
Customer Review: Works. Enough power. Not hot. Summary: 3 Stars
Three stars is about as much as I would give a hub. There's nothing wrong with it. In fact, it works well. I just can't get my shorts in a twist over a hub.
Pro's: Enough power for large thumb drives
Power Chord designed to take up only one slot on power strip.
Does not run hot.
Seven ports are better than 4.
Transfer seems fairly speedy.
Cons: Why doesn't a USB provider make a hub with screw holes to attach it to a top or side surface?
Parallel ports are closely spaced, too close for some drives and dongles. You'd think that after figuring out the plug issue, they'd also realize that not all USB devices are slender. That removes the usefulness of a port or two.
Computer cable and power chord in smack dab in center, which makes desk placement difficult.
Still, it's probably the most practical hub on the market in the price range.
