Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DUB-H7 High Speed USB 2.0 7-Port HubCustomer Review: Not compatible with all USB 2 devices Summary: 1 Stars
The D-Link Hub H-7 is NOT compatible with the USB 2 Sandisk Cardreader. I bought the hub specifically to free up a USB 2 port on my CPU that I was using for the card reader. It took about an hour to straighten out the mess created by these two pieces of equipment.
This peripheral failed once again this morning. It was necessary to unplug and replug a USB 2 device in order to get it to work. The reviewer above is correct about power through-put. I cannot use it for my card reader which requires power or to recharge my iPod. I still have my old USB 1 hub. I won't toss it now. It may go back on line.
I'm also very suspicious of the authors of many of the rave reviews. Can they be D-Link distributor employees?
My comments are not suitable for this site. Sufficed to say - beware of the D-Link Hub. It doesn't work with everything. Returning the D-Link is more hassle than it's worth, I'll just toss it if it continues to fail, so the sale stands though the customer is not happy.
Customer Review: Works great. Design could be better. Summary: 4 Stars
The product works great and is very simple to hook-up. I think the design could be a little better though. I do like the grippy feet pads and, for the most part, the narrow AC power adapter plug-in. The plug-in fits well into a power strip but would stick out quite a bit if plugged into a wall socket, luckily I use a power strip. What I didn't like was the way all of the USB ports were on one side of the device while the power connection and the USB upstream port are on the other side of the device. Not a big deal, but because the wires are sticking out of opposing sides, it is hard to hide the Hub or fit it into tight spaces. I think it would be more functional if all plug-ins were on one side of the device (Top would be ideal) or perhaps only 90 degrees apart (front & side as opposed to front & back). The configuration of the plug-ins is something I didn't consider when I went looking for a USB hub. If I had it might have influenced my decision to purchase this product. All-in-all: Thumbs-up!
Customer Review: Nearly Perfect Performance Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this hub to use multiple USB devices at the same time with my Sony VAIO laptop, which only has two USB ports. From the minute I plugged it in and connected all my equipment it worked nearly perfectly. I was able to burn a DVD with an external USB burner while the .iso file I was writing to disc was stored on an external USB hard drive. Both devices were connected to the PC via the D-Link DUB-7 USB hub. So the data was streaming from the external drive to the hub to the PC back to the hub and finally to the burner. It worked fine. Other hubs I have owned in the past had failed this test miserably. My only disappointment is that a USB optical mouse that works when I plug into the PC USB ports does not function while connected to the hub. I do not know why. The PC thinks the mouse is a new device and tried to download the driver from the web but it fails. This may not be the D-Link hub's fault but who knows?
Overall a great item. Better than many competitors.
Customer Review: So far, so good Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this hub mostly for the price, and the need to quick-connect my laptop to 6 devices when I get home. I run a wireless mouse, External keyboard, printer, External disc burners/readers, and external hard drives, all with no trouble.
No studdering with the mouse, and transfers between hard drives are quick.
I could not be happier with this product
***UPDATE***
I bought this hub almost 3 full months ago, and have yet to have even the slightest problem. I am running a wireless mouse, external keyboard, 720p webcam, and a gaming joystick all at the same time, with just a single USB port in my laptop being used. No need for a docking station with this hub, which saved me over $200. I am pushing this hub as hard as my needs can, and this simple, easy to install device has yet to cause me any problems. I am going to buy another one of these, to use on my desktop computer.
Buy this USB hub with complete confidence.
Customer Review: Unreliable Summary: 2 Stars
This device works at first, then the various USB components mysteriously stop working every few days. Once you troubleshoot your system, and determine that the problem is your brand new USB hub, you can reset the thing by unplugging it from the power supply and USB cord, and then plugging it back in. Then everything will again work fine for a few days.
This is quite inconvenient, and has happened to my mouse, keyboard, printer, and scanner. I have yet to find a USB device that will work reliably with this thing.
Although it may be possible that I have a defective unit, I suspect that the problems I have had are due to the design of this unit.
I also bought this (cheaper) unit:
Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Ultra Mini Hub F5U407
I have not encountered similar issues with the cheaper (four port) unit. So decide for yourself.
