Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DUB-H7 High Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub

Customer Review: A Nice Product
Summary: 5 Stars

This unit works great--I have no complaints. Here's what the experience of buying this unit has taught me:

1) Spend the extra few $$ for the 7-port unit. I first was going to buy the 4-port version, but decided that the larger unit was probably a good bet. After I hooked it up, USB devices seemed to come out of the woodwork.

2) I put the unit on my desktime, tucked behind my monitor. I've found that it's much more convenient to plug and unplug USB devices when the USB ports are near at hand. Even the two ports on the front of my Dell
Dimension are less convenient, since the computer box is a few feet away.

3) If you plug any USB 1.1 devices into this unit, all ports will work at the USB 1.1 speed. You'll lose the USB 2.0 speed advantage on the other ports. All of my devices are now USB 2.0, so this isn't an issue for me. If you have older 1.1 devices, this may be a real pain, though.

Customer Review: Excellent hub for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

After months of having to swap cables whenever I wanted to update my iPod, get images off of my camera or even transfer ringtones via bluetooth, I finally bought this hub. It is WONDERFUL. I have my all-in-one printer, photo printer, iPod cable, camera cable and Bluetooth adapters plugged into it since it arrived and I have not had any issues.

It is small enough to fit on the back of my desk where it is easy to reach to plug in a flash drive, but out of sight to ease the clutter. The only con , in my opinion, is that it has an external power source. Not big enough of a worry to change my 5-star rating, it's just a nuisance when you have as many peripherals as I do! :)

All-in-all, this is cheaper than buying 2-4 port hubs at my local B&M store and is smaller and more convenient. If (heaven forbid) I find or buy more USB components, I will definitely get another one of these.

Customer Review: Nice USB 2.0 hub
Summary: 4 Stars

Iv used cheaper USB 2.0 hubs with more problems.. It just works.
Minor gripe is it uses a plug similar to a newer model Iomega Zip drive.. its not a wallwart, but an oversized plug... Solves the problem with outlets on some powerstrips, but not others... (ones which have the outlets stacked on top of each other, vs the ones with the outlets facing side to side.. Though they use a right angle connector on the connector side of the plug which is VERY nice. It seems to handle dual speeds without throttling 2.0 devices.. Woulda liked to have seen them use a different color LED for power than the ports, but these are minor issues.. Also wonder why they didn't put an upstream port on the side to stack it (or just an 8th USB port instead).. The spacing between ports is tight but the end port on the right and left side seem to have room enough to handle some of the larger USB stick-type devices..

Customer Review: Working Perfectly After A Year!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this hub for about a year now and have put heavy use on it. There hasn't been a hiccup with it at all.

I run multiple external hard drives (500 gig each) through it, a card reader, wireless mouse, a printer, an all-in-one scanner/printer/copier, internet modem, and it has handled them all with no problems whatsoever. So I can only advise on my personal experiences with the device. It doesn't even get warm.

The "new" slimline power supply is nice, but it is marked as 120v, not 240v. So for those going overseas, you will need another device to use this.

I'm getting ready to buy another one of these so as far as I'm concerned, it's the perfect little hub. Later this year, when I convert the house to Cat5 ethernet, I'll be looking at the D-Link switch based on my very positive experience with this hub and the D-Link wireless router that I also have.

Customer Review: Good but not perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

This USB hub in general works well and runs cool. The only issue is that it is not completely compatible with some devices:

- My Western Digital external hard drive was not always recognized. Since the drive was also a USB hub, I attached the drive to the computer and then attached the DLINK hub through the drive hub. This works fine.

- My Palm PDA provides a Hotsync status after each sync via a pop-up window from the system tray. When I connect the Palm PDA (Centro) via the DLINK hub the pop-ups do not work. So I need to launch the Palm Desktop application to check Hotsync status after each sync.

Both issues have workarounds but it would be nice if I did not need workarounds. I am not sure that any other hub would work any better.

Other than that it ia a great hub for the price, especially considering that it has its own power supply.
