This thing is pretty nifty and fun to watch, and I have a pretty place for it in my apartment, but don't purchase this expecting it to ever "sooth" you. It moves too quickly left to right, and the motor noise (as others have mentioned) is a bit too loud for my liking.
The wave sound effects, which you can turn off, are absolutely horrible and cheap sounding. I really enjoy this for what it is, but don't expect the world from this product.
