Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of DAZER II Ultrasonic Dog DeterrentCustomer Review: Works as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
We are surrounded by two neighbors with dogs who do not have any training on staying quiet. Both dogs are literally left outdoors all the time and I've never seen either dogs being played with or taken for a walk. I believe the dogs are actually justified in barking for attention. However, it does not help my situation in trying to get some sleep and being able to enjoy my home with the windows open. This is the accompanying review that I wrote for the Dog Silencer Pro.
This product will irritate dogs and get them to stop barking with some training. However, it requires that you have to physically be there and push the button to train the animals. That's hard to do if it's cold outside or if it's in the middle of the night and you don't want to go outside to push a button. Thus, I highly recommend this product with the Dog Silencer Pro since the other product gives a basal ultrasonic shot to remind the animal(s) of their training. When you are able to use the Dog Dazer II with the other product, they work great together.
Bonus: I have cats at home that are pretty bold/stubborn. It was a pleasant surprise when I found that I could use it to train our cats to stay off certain chairs and stop scratching certain areas. Thus, I'm VERY happy with my purchase since the dogs have almost quieted down and the cats are now learning to listen to their "owners."
Helpful tip: The product works best if you have line of sight or as near as possible to line of sight. It will not work through walls or cinder block fences. I "shoot" my up on a 30 degree angle to get the noise to clear our 6' cinder block wall and it works for me. When I actually look at the animal and use the product, it gets his attention a lot quicker.
Pro:
- Works as advertised.
- Relatively inexpensive (what's your sleep & sanity really worth?)
- Works for dog or cat training.
Con:
- You have to physically be there to do the training.
I do recommend this product with the Dog Silencer Pro if you're trying to stop a neighbor's dog from barking. It may be insufficient by itself for this purpose if you have a stubborn animal.
Good luck & I feel your pain if you have barking dog problems.
Customer Review: Dogs learn quickly, its the humans that need training. Summary: 5 Stars
I love this thing. My wife has seven dogs and a couple of them are a real pain. The two that stay outside are barkers and have gotten animal control and the ploice called on us by our wonderful neighbor. I tried a $50.00 bark coller on the loudest one but the battery lasts a little over a week before you needed a new one and the battery was $6.00 at radio shack, though it did work while the battery was new it got to be costly and a pain to replace the battery every time he started barking again.
We purchased the Dazer 2 and I was amazed. The first time I used it the dog acted like he'd been slapped and stagered back a step. He doesn't like the sound at all though I can hear nothing.
That was a month ago and he has all but stopped barking completely. Using verbal commands with it the dog knows I mean business and all I have to do now is point at him and say HUSH and he takes a quarter step back and is silent and stays that way. The other dog is 13 y/o and 3/4 deaf and can hear it but it hasn't worked as well on her though she stops while you're in front of her.
The other issue is the 2 y/o black lab that is as hyper as a cat in a rat trap. [we have cats too, its just a phrase.] The lab responds to it and does what she's told but usually goes back to the behavior when I'm out of sight [sigh]... she's going to take a bit more work, though she has stopped jumping on the door when she wants back in after I spent two days waiting just inside the screen door to daze her when she jumped on the door. She is a smart dog but wants it her way most of the time.
The wife watches that dog whisperer guy [I read or find something else to do] but I was stunned the other day watching him handle a dog when he turned to the owner and said "Dogs learn quickly,... its the humans that need training".
This Dazer isn't a magic cure all but it gets their attention while you let them know what you want them to do, then positive reinforcement with a pat and a "good boy" when they stop the behavior.
With all the inbreeding and cross breeding going on you're going to find dogs that are just dumber than a post and it will take more work but they WILL learn. Wish they had these for kids back in the day. [just kidding]
Customer Review: No longer a hostage in my own backyard! Summary: 5 Stars
I normally don't make time for reviews but this item is so wonderful I want to post flyers for it throughout my neighborhood as the barking dog problem is rampant. The short version...The pros: It will quiet a barking dog with sensitive ears,it really does shut them up! The cons: It doesn't work through walls! You have to be near the dog (w/in 50ft) for it to have an effect. Get this item if you have a barking dog problem and an inconsiderate neighbor who refuses to do anything about it.
The story: Everytime anyone used to go outside of my newly purchased house, the neighbor's dog would bark incessantly. Not to mention the fact than anytime anything happened w/in earshot the dog would be barking. I asked the neighbor if she could do something about this and she replied, "He's a Lab, they just bark". Unacceptable and not true, only untrained ones do. I tried dog treats, I tried coaxing then I resorted to the hose, and all it did was raise my waterbill and make a large stripe in my lawn very green. So we built a large privacy fence (at our expense) and the barking did not stop. This "Dazer" was my last hope. So the day came to try it out (read: "the moment it arrived in the mail" comes WITH batteries!)It works exceptionally well!!!! I can't tell you how empowering this thing is. I feel like John Wayne. To finally have something to stop the barking. It's so peaceful when my family, friends and I go outside. If the dog starts, I walk over, aim it in the dog's direction push and hold the button and say "Quiet", the animal stops and runs in the house so quickly, you'd think I'd maced it. So I am covertly training my neighbor's dog for her! I was skeptical but relieved to have a tool to bring respite to this barking phenomenon that appears to be taking over the peaceful homes of America due to socially irresponsible dog owners (don't get me started). PS: I love animals. I have 2 well trained dogs myself, that have never needed a Dazer as I took them AND myself to dog training courses. (I'd never heard of it before until I Googled "how to stop your neighbor's dog from barking") Get this, if you value peace and quiet.
Customer Review: Too good to be true Summary: 1 Stars
This product did not seem to deter my neighbors dog who constantly barks and jumps at the fence if he hears me in my backyard. When I received the DAZER II in the mail, I first tried clicking it inside my house aimed at my own dog just to get an idea of what would happen. My own dog would just tilt his head when i clicked it, but thats pretty much the same reaction I get from him if I say h is name. I read the included booklet and there was some mention that 'Use of the DAZER with familiar and passive friendly dogs or your own pet may not evoke a significant reaction'. This doesn't make sense to me, but I thought oh well, I'll try it on a dog thats aggressive to me.
So I took a walk down my fence-line and my neighbor's dog started jumping on the fence and barking at me. I clicked my DAZER, noticing the red LED was lit and this didn't seem to cause the neighbor's dog to stop. The fence is a cedar 6ft privacy fence with small gaps between the fence boards, enough for me to see the neighbor's dog. I thought maybe the sound may not travel well through the fence, so i went to the corner of the fence where i keep my trash cans; there is a 6 inch gap there where I can clearly see through the fences. Arriving at the gap, the neighbor's dog met me as expected, his face looking at me through the gap as he barked and growled at me. So with fingers crossed that my new tool would work, I again clicked my DAZER and the dog was unfazed, not even a pause or a head tilt.
I was also shopping for something to deter dogs because I had recently been attacked by two loose dogs while walking my dog. One was a Pit Bull and one was a Boxer. I had to pick up my dog and carry him above my head as the other two dogs kept jumping up on me trying to get him. Luckily they didn't start biting me, but I definitely wanted some kind of protection. I also bought some Halt Dog deterrent (stuff the USPS uses). I had hoped the DAZER would work, but I'm returning it and will keep the Halt with me on my walks.
Customer Review: Works great to control barking Summary: 5 Stars
Luckily, this device works pretty good on our neighbor's large dog. The dog is left outside all day while the neighbor is at work and the dog barks at everything from delivery men to visitors to passers-by out of sheer boredom. The dog is so loud, I can't even do simple gardening or chat with other neighbors because the dog just explodes into non-stop barking.
So, I bought this dazer device and here's what happened: the first time I went outside to garden, the dog, predictably, lost his mind barking while simultaneously jumping at me from the other side of the block fence. I pointed this dazer at him and repeatedly pressed the button, maybe for a second or two each time. He instantly stopped jumping up at me and turned around to walk to the other side of his yard, still emitting a bark or two just to let me know what's what.
The next day, I went outside again to garden, and went straight over to the fence where the dog usually is, dazer in hand. This time, he heard me coming, and starting walking to the other side of his yard even before I reached the fence. He wasn't barking, but he was letting out a low growl, again just to let me know what's what.
The next day, again I went to the fence dazer in hand, and again the dog started walking to the other side of his yard before I reached the fence, this time no growling.
Fast forward to a week later and the dog still isn't barking or jumping up at me when I'm outside. I still go outside armed with the dazer, just in case. The dog, however, still barks at passers-by, delivery men and other neighbors. It seems the dazer has trained him not to bark only when I'm around. My next experiment will be training him not to bark when anybody is on our property - not sure how to go about that but I think I'm off to a good start with what he's learned so far.
I can see how a product like this doesn't work for every dog, but I'm sure glad it works for us :)
