Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter, 802.11g, 54 Mbps

Customer Review: I should have read here first!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have spent the last few hours trying to install this thing, only to finally have tech support admit it is a problem with ME compatibility. The latest guy said they were supposed to fix the driver file (H/W Ver B1, F/W Ver 2.11)but says nothing he can do, I've got to call in on Monday. Paid extra to get this shipped fast so could install for the weekend. The first tech support guy claimed I had corrupted files and should download from the website, then didn't even log the call. If you are smarter than I was, and reading this before purchase, I say AVOID! Too risky. This is a core product--you think D-Link could have fixed this by now!

Customer Review: Works with Ubuntu 10.04 Linux
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered a refurbished DWL-G510 for about $15. I'm using it with an Intel Atom N330 motherboard and Ubuntu Linux. I put the card in and it just worked. No need to load drivers. Ubuntu detected it automatically. It connects to my D-Link wiress router 20ft away no problem. It's been running for about 20 minutes now without dropping the connection. I'm running a Bittorrent upload while I'm typing this. So far, no problems or error messages. I gave this card 4 stars. I didn't give it 5 stars, because it's only 802.11g and not 802.11n. But hey, what do you want for 15 bucks.

Customer Review: Just need another driver, people
Summary: 3 Stars

I saw that this card was getting very poor reviews, so I had to post my experience with the G510. Yes, it did drop connections quite frequently and it's a little unnerving that the drivers have not been updated at all. BUT you just have to do a quick Google search (the world needs more of them) to find that the ASUS driver - same chipset and all - is tried, tested and true in XP and will improve the signals. I just installed it and now the card works just fine. Go here: http://www.asus.com/support/downloa...delName=WL-138g. Then perhaps your minds will change about this card.

Customer Review: Great price and it works!
Summary: 5 Stars

Just picked this up for my older desktop and had it installed and running within 5 minutes. I had previously tried a Linksys card but I could not get it to identify my IP address or stay connected. The D-Link software/driver install was much quicker and I don't have any unnecessary programs running in the background slowing my machine down. I swear that my wireless connection is even faster than my wired connection. Perhaps my standard ethernet card needs replacing as well!

For the price, this one is tough to beat!

Customer Review: Great product in my experiences
Summary: 5 Stars

I was simply stunned to see such low ratings for this card. I have installed this card using ubuntu linux, which worked great and effortlessly. I have also installed this card on windows xp, and have had just excellent experiences. It picks up a great signal in areas where other cards don't. I even picked up one of these used from ebay and installed it in an old computer running windows 98, and it worked fantastic. I am really just shocked to see such bad reviews for this card. In my experiences, it has been infallible.
