Customer Review: WARNING: Does not work with Windows XP SP3!

I called D-Link support about installation problems with this product. They ran me through basic re-installation for half an hour and then told me "This card's drivers don't work with Windows XP Service Pack 3." They said I should roll back Windows to Service Pack 2. No, I'm not kidding. Thanks, D-Link, for wasting my time and money with your misrepresented product.
D-Link sells this card as XP compatible and yet they admit it doesn't work with the current, Windows-approved version of XP. This is pretty close to outright fraud. If it doesn't work with the XP service pack that 95% of users are operating with, then they can't honestly say it works with XP.
This speaks very poorly for D-Link's honesty and integrity.

First of all this is a receiver of a wireless signal, NOT a transmitter! The guy above A.K. Smith "buddyroo" has no idea how wireless networking actually works. The reason he didn't get any improvement is because the signal he's trying to receive is the SAME! The signal at the college would need updated to a wireless N signal to improve the range transmission! If you want to boost the signal, set up a wireless repeater to boost the college signal (if that is even possible, depending on thier set up.) Notwithstanding the above, this is a great card. And if you plan on buying the new DIR-855 when is comes out soon, you'll already have a compatible card!Customer Review: Does not support 5Mhz only 2.4

It's kinda silly to have a adapter for that that is over 60 dollars that is supposed to be so great that only supports 2.4Mhz. Only buy this if you don't have 5mhz band to choose from and won't because you can get a better one that supports the clearer 5Mhz band for less that does the same with 2.4Mhz its kinda sad they don't specify in larger print that it is only for 2.4Mhz I would of not bought it for so much to use with my new router.
It works fine.
But the added software does not work well with the windows zero config. I recommend using zero config and the install cd software for the driver which you can get updated from dlink

This product did exactly what I needed it to do. Yes, I bought it for a limited application but I couldn't be happier with the result. Right out the box it installed quickly and easily. I was up and running with no hassles at 3 times the speed. My alternative was to run 150 feet of Cat-5 cable under the house and get 1/3 of the speed I ended up with. I have an old laptop that I've dedicated to stream video from my home office (where I have the xtreme n wireless router from d-link) to our "TV" room (where the laptop is attached to our bigscreen and surround sound). Great performance. We're very very happy with the result!Customer Review: Great Card

Ok, the other reviews of this product weren't that helpfull for me previous to my purchase of this product so i thought i'd throw in my two cents. I'm using this card to replace my old Linksys card which wasn't giving a whole lot of range or power and replacing my old liksys router. I'm now using the DIR-655 in conjunction with this card and i'm getting exceptional range! 300mbps at the fence of my property about 150 linear feet away through multiple walls. The card itself is able to detect networks from a lot farther range than my previous card. I'm very pleased with my purchase. Hope this helps others out. Good Luck.
