Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DWA-642 RangeBooster N Notebook Adapter

Customer Review: DWA-642 is horrible
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased the D-Link DIR-615 router and "matching" DWA-642 adapter thinking I would get better range and signal compared to my Linksys wireless G router and boy was I wrong. First, the 642 adapter has a driver that constanly causes GPF errors when the adapter is not in my laptop, you know, the one where it wants to collect information and send to Microsoft. I got on with tech support and they had me download the latest driver which fixed the GPF error but did little to improve the ability to connect to the router establishing a "link". The 642 has been EOL'd as of last fall and replaced by a 652 which I am hoping to get from D-Link's support once my purchase is beyond 30 days old where they will warranty it. So far, this adapter/router combination has proven to have less range than my Linksys G. Unless the 652 can resolve this problem, this purchase was a complete waste of time. My laptop is Windows XP SP 3.

Customer Review: Discontinued product, no warranty or support
Summary: 1 Stars

The Advertisement for this product made no mention at all that this product has been not only discontinued, but also has no warranty and no technical support services.

Regarding D-link (manufacturer), I think it is beyond unfair and boarderline criminal to dump products on the marketplace then revoke all support without warning and without any kind of expiration date on the product.

Regarding the seller, its pretty disreputable to sell such a product without full disclosure of this vital information.

Customer Review: Great Wireless Adapter for the Money
Summary: 4 Stars

After I replaced my old D-Link router with a gigabit router this also seemed like the way to go for a wireless card upgrade.

I wanted to see some network speed improvement within my Local Area Network and this just worked swell with my new gigabit router. This Wireless card at full range has speeds of 300Mbps which is way faster than your traditional 54Mbps wireless g notebook adapter.

It only ran $15 dollars which of course is a steal.

Customer Review: IT'S ALL THAT YOU NEED FOR A COMPUTER THAT ALREADY HAS WIRELESS CAPABILITY
Summary: 5 Stars

DON'T pay a lot more money for another adapter made by and recommended by the same company that made this one UNLESS you intend to use the much more expensive adapter with a computer that has no pre-existing wireless capability. You don't always need something more expensive and it won't always suit your purposes better only because it costs more money. I know - I'm a long-time computer professional, among other things.

Customer Review: Rangebooster does is job well!
Summary: 5 Stars

We have been using the Rangebooster for over a month now. I let my teenage son do the installation and he had it up and running in no time. It's worked great ever since. I was concerned about streaming movies across the Wifi and if any latency issues might crop up, but no issues there at all. It's doing exactly the job I hoped it would.
