Customer Review: Don't rent..Buy! Speed is great w/ this cable modem

I was renting a Toshiba PCX1100 from Cox for almost 2 years just because I knew nothing about Cable modems and was hesitant to break what was working. Customer Service rep recommended buying so took a chance. I reviewed the recommended list online and took his recommendations Motorola Surfboard, Toshiba PCX 2200, and Linksys under advisement. I was on my way to purchase a Motorola at Circuit City when I saw this on Amazon at a great deal(...). I couldn't beat that price anywhere so I checked the reviews. I noticed that the reviews in 2005 gave good ones. It was on the vendor's recommended list so I gambled and thought let me try it.
At 10:30 pm, I began to read and install. When installing the ethernet connection, I disabled and enabled the Local Area Connection and the protocols were automatically updated for the modem. (Properties were set to automatic as per the directions) Then I clicked on internet explorer and the easy installation instructions from Cox Communications came up. I walked thru all the steps and at the very end hit an error. I called Cox Technical Support and after 15 minutes of troubleshooting and questions, he updated the Serial Number and the Cable Modem MAC for the D-Link in Cox system. A quick double click at 11:15 PM and I was up and ready to go. I thought 45 minutes wasn't too bad since I'm no technical person and most of the time was spent reading directions and working with someone at COX to get me up and running. Loading webpages and content is MUCH quicker than my Toshiba which I believe was on it's last leg. Most of all, I'm happy with the product.
Rule #1, Before installing CALL your cable company, tell them you are switching modems, the brand, Cable modem MAC, and the Serial number. (All are found on the modem or box)
Rule #2, Do NOT rent. BUY!!! In 3 months time, I will have recovered the cost of renting.(...).
