My main purpose for getting this hub was that I needed a large number of USB ports for my Macbook. Two just wasn't going to cut it, and my macbook is currently acting as my 'desktop', and getting to the ports is quite a hassle. I've been using some other cheaper ones from retail stores, but they've all failed, or were too slow. I'd been looking at this one, but was turned off by the color scheme, as my desk space is black glass and metal, and this looked ancient in comparison.
I'm very glad I got the unit though. Once I got it installed, I tested it out by plugging in three separate external harddrives, two self-powered and one USB-powered, a usb-video-converter unit, a flash drive and my ipod (six items total), and was able to convert a video, sync my ipod touch and transfer files from two drives to one all simultaneously, very easily. My unit didn't heat up much, which was a problem with my last one.
My biggest complaint would be the mess of wires- because I still need to plug in flash drives to some of the last spots, the usb hub is in relatively clear sight of anyone in the vicinity, and can spot all the usb wires very easily. I have some things I can use to remedy the problem, but overall it's rather unsightly. No stars deducted though, because it's not something one can complain about.
Don't waste your money on anything cheaper like I did- just hop on the bandwagon and you'll have gotten yourself a great deal.

You'd be amazed at how many things can go wrong with a USB 2.0 hub. Happily, none of those nasty things happen with this D-Link hub.
Plug it in to the USB port of the computer, plug the power into a 110 v AC outlet and you are good to go with 7 USB 2.0 devices. (It will handle USB 1.x, but remember that a slow device will slow everything else down. That's the nature of USB, not a problem with the product. This is a hub, not an intelligent switch.)
The USB hub itself is relatively small, which is nice. Some manufacturers make these things way bigger than they need to be. This one is compact, but has good clearance between each of the seven USB connecters. By the way, all the connectors are on one side, which is much to be preferred to those units where the USB ports are spread out on two or three sides, which simply adds to cable clutter.
Construction is as solid as it can be for a mass produced unit of this type and price.
The supplied USB cable is about 6 feet long.
My only criticism is that the power adapter is as relatively large wall wart kind and takes up too much space on a power bar. Unfortunately that's the way it is with most manufacturers of this kind of product.
On the whole, a well designed, well constructed product at a fair price.

I own two of these USB hubs and have recommended them to others. But right now, I'm a bit disappointed, because I primarily want to charge USB devices with no computer attached to the hub, and this hub won't do that, even with the AC adapter plugged in. Still, if you want a convenient powered USB hub with lots of ports, and you mostly want to connect devices to your computer, this is the hub I'd recommend!Customer Review: Great Hub

I have about 20 external items I hook up to my laptop and so far this is the best quality well built usb hub that I have so far owned. I am impressed with the power supply and its connector solid built. The hub itself is well built and has not fallen apart unlike other hubs that I have owned.
