Customer Review: Got Me Back Online
Summary: 5 Stars

We had a Linksys router that took a hit when lightning struck near our house. Also, a tv, the Time Warner cable modem and two computers got more energy than they could handle and promptly quit working(yes, all were on surge protectors). Initially I purchased a Netgear switch and although it was supposed to send the signal by wire 100 meters, it couldn't send it 100 feet. Netgear has never responded to my questions about repair/replacement in the three year warranty. Upon looking into wired routers and switches more fully I noticed that D-Link seemed to have many high ratings and so purchased a wired router and this gigabit switch. The support staff answered questions for me before the purchase and gave me information regarding the Netgear (which now sits in a box-unused).

The D-Link wired router and switch arrived the same day from Amazon and in less than 10 minutes we were back in business. No problem for the switch to send signal to my detached office/workshop and absolutely no glitches, failures or surprises. They simply work and work very well!

Customer Review: Excellent with only very minor problem
Summary: 5 Stars

I just received and installed the switch today and have a bunch of 100Mbps switches and hubs attached, so I can't really vouch much for the transfer rates, but I can say that pulling from two computers on two different switches connected to a gigabit file server on this switch, I did notice a considerable increase in speed.

However, I did notice one very minor problem when testing the ports on this switch. When you try to use a simple loopback adapter to test the ports (I have ethernet running to many rooms in my house), the switch is too smart and does not show a link light. I think this may have something to do with the green features of the switch. It may work with an electronic network test kit, but just not with a keychain loopback adapter. The easy fix was to just use a laptop instead. :-)

Like I said, very minor, but it confused me for a minute at first. Hopefully this will help other people when considering purchasing or testing this switch. In the meantime, I'm going to buy some more. :-D

Customer Review: Cheap, run cool, save power
Summary: 4 Stars

I have 3 of these D-Link DGS-2208 8-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch running on my home network and they've all been on all the time for the last 6 months with no problems at all. These are unmanaged switches and you just plug them in and go. The 8 ports are all autosensing so you just plug everything and there's no need to worry about anything. The switch is supposed to turn off unused ports to save power and to adjust power consumption based on the lengths of the cable runs. My three switches have been running cool with no problems. One of them is in a structured wiring cabinet so it's not getting much ventilation. For the price (around $40) these are an outstanding value. I haven't done any performance testing so I can't tell you what the performance is like but I don't experience any problems at all on a relatively complex gigabit home network. We even use them in the office when we run out of ports in conference rooms or cubes and I don't think we've ever encountered a problem with them at all.

Customer Review: Faster than my old one and easy to install
Summary: 5 Stars

I grabbed this switch to replace a 5 port 10/100 switch I had just outgrown. It was a simple unplug and replug install and I was very curious if the gigabit interface would improve my network transfers between my Netgear Readynas (has gigabit) and my PC (has gigabit). I'm delighted to say that it did. My old switch would peak at about 11Megs/second while this new one is about 22 Megs/second on writing and almost 40Megs/second on reads. This saves my considerable time in transferring files and I've got more ports to boot. I can confirm that having 100mb/sec devices on the switch doesn't bottleneck the speed. My printer and DirecTV DVR are both 100mbit devices (confirmed with the switches speed LED) but my speed was still much better than my old 100mb/s switch.

I can't account to the "green-ness" of the switch, but I have no reason to doubt it. I should also mention that the power brick is tiny... my old switch's wall-wart was almost as large as the switch, this one is tiny.

Customer Review: Not Compatible with all my equipment
Summary: 2 Stars

While this D link works fine with my Toshiba Laptop, I can't get it to function with my 802.11g HP C4385 All In One Printer/Copier, or my Ifit Module for my Nordic Track which all worked fine with my Netgear Router before. It won't accept the 64 digit Wap security code this machine puts out, and seems not to be able to find the B band which this should also be putting out according to the settings. Compounding the problem is in calling the help center, and not being able to understand the Indian Techs they are so fond of hiring. I spent 25 minutes frustrating both of us with every other word being pardon me, or excuse me I didn't understand what you just said. I will never buy another Product that doesn't have local help center access, instead of overseas. I have ordered another Netgear router, and this one is going in the closet where it best serves everyones needs, or I have someone I want to frustrate by giving it to them as a gift.
