Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop SwitchCustomer Review: Satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted to expand the number of drops on my home network for a minimal cost. The D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch cost less than $30 with a $[...] mail-in rebate. I was interested in its energy efficiency, as well, and have been pretty satisfied with its ability to run 'cool'. Is gigabit speed an overkill for a small home network? Probably for now...but I like to think ahead. I have connected my kid's WII, a Slingbox, a Blue-Ray player and added, as well, a powerline ethernet module to the available ports. I've had no issues and am very satisfied with the switch.
Customer Review: Save your box and everthing inside. Summary: 3 Stars
I bought one of these earlier this year and it went bad. I called D-Link and they were nice but it took forever to get an RMA number. Then you find you have to return everything in the box including the CD and rubber feet! This thing has a three year warranty so be advised to keep everything together with proof of purchase. Then it cost me almost about half of what it cost to buy the unit just to ship it back. They will cross ship with a credit card but it will take up to 30 days to see the credit back. To be fair the unit worked well and I had no issues with it until it failed.
Customer Review: Great Product!! Summary: 5 Stars
This product exceeded my expectations. It is very similar performance wise to SMC SMCGS5 that I bought 6 month ago. The only differences I could find is that DGS-2205 costs less, runs cooler, looks better, and AC adapter covers just one outlet (instead of three) on my power strip.
Both support 9K jumbo frames no problem, and work together without a hitch. On my setup, Iperf is showing 870 Mbps through cross-over, about 850 Mbps through either switch, and about 830 Mbps through both on 4 flows. This is faster than any of my hard drives, so I'm completely satisfied.
Customer Review: Works as Advertised Summary: 4 Stars
This gigbit switch came with a 5V power adapter. The "green" aspect of the switch doesn't seem to conserve enough energy to make a difference on a power bill, but it's still a nice feature. It seems to properly support jumbo frames. But, more importantly, a gigabit device won't have to slow down to 100Mbps when a 10/100 device is connected. That is the dirty little secret of A LOT of gigabit switches. So each device can actually transmit to it's maximum sync speed. I dinged it one star since I cannot comment on longevity. However, I do expect it to last for many years.
Customer Review: Great value Summary: 5 Stars
A very reasonably priced gigabit switch with 5 ports -- we use over a dozen of these in our office without any difficulties. Unlike various Netgear units we've had, none of these have failed or had bad ports.
Gigabit support seems good, though I've never bothered (or needed) to run any throughput tests.
And for being called Green Ethernet, I'm not really sure how many power savings there can be from a little switch like this...though nonetheless it's always positive to hear companies taking this under consideration when designing products.
