Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop SwitchCustomer Review: Switch to This Unit for Plenty of Ports Summary: 5 Stars
Need to expand your home ethernet network to accommodate more nodes? This inexpensive, well-constructed switch will do the job. Just plug one line from your router into this unit, then plug connections from your extra devices into the remaining ports. I recently purchased a network-ready Canon MP970 computer and needed a switch at my desk to share the ethernet connection with my desktop computer. Then I decided to plug a network cable into one of the remaining ports and dangle it behind my desk for those occasions when I also have to work on my office notebook computer. The 1000 speed of this switch enables me to stream media back and forth to other computers.
Customer Review: Small device for big upgrade. Summary: 5 Stars
This little guy replaced a very old 10M hub. That hub was being used to share one connection to my XBOX, my PS3, and my DirecTV.
We frequently use the XBOX to stream Netflix. The 10M did an OK job of this, but I had no idea the DLink would make it so much better.
I didnt have to set it up....I plugged in the uplink to port 1, and the others into ports 2, 3, and 4. Turned all my devices on.
And thats it! They all have great ping rates, and my Netflix are in HD every time they are capable. No more re-syncing during the movie.
Nice job on this one, DLink. And great price from Amazon.
Customer Review: Small and effective, sometimes needs a reset Summary: 5 Stars
I needed an ethernet switch when my college dorm this semester had 3 occupants instead of 2. My desk is next to 2 ports but one is mine and the other is one of my roommates. This product was small, highly rated, and inexpensive. I run my laptop and my xbox off of this switch, with no problems or noticeable impact in performance.
My only issue is sometimes the internet just wont connect, and a quick reset (unplug and plug back in) will bring the connection back. I'd prefer not to have this problem, but its infrequent, and could be my schools internet to begin with. Its crowded and not always reliable on its own.
Customer Review: Works great Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this switch to connect our TV, PS3 (and 2 other future products). I have 2 other D-Link 8 port gigabit switches which replaced Linksys and Netgear switches/routers. I was never a huge D-Link fan until now. My only complaint is the switch "feels" cheap because it is extremely light and made of plastic, compare that to the Netgear blue metal switches which just feel extremely solid (but trust me they aren't I had to replace the Netgear with the D-link) :)
If you need a reliable gigabit switch at a reasonable cost then get this D-Link, if you need more ports get the 8-port D-Link.
Customer Review: Fast, Easy, Reliable Summary: 5 Stars
This D-Link switch has a small footprint and blends right in with all my other equipment. Installation was as easy as plunging in the switch, connecting my internet cable to the switch, and then connecting my other devices to the switch. Honestly, it is that easy. Throughput speeds have been reliable, and I have not noticed any lagging in my equipment.
The display is simple and easy to read. No bells and whistles, just straight up indicator lights making it easy to tell what ports are active and which ones are available.
For the price, this switch cannot be beat.
