I bought this unit to replace my older 10/100 switch. Now my entire network is gigabit.
The unit itself works great. It meets published specs. The unit itself does not get overly warm even with all ports being used. I also like the small green lights (as opposed to the bright blue LEDs of my D-Link DIR-655 router, also great) which is less obtrusive.
My gripe is not with the equipment itself but with Amazon. [...]
Great unit though and well worth the price even at the price I bought it for.

I bought this device some time ago:
Instant Order Update for Mike. You purchased this item on August 30, 2008.
It went kaput today, no lightning storms or anything, the power light is on, but none of the ports will read Ethernet cables, nor will they light up when inserted on a network.
I'm thinking next time buy something a little higher end that will last more than 18 months. This is a piece of junk if it goes out so quickly, I won't be buying a D-Link again any time soon.

This thing is an excellent little switch and without a doubt the best bang for your buck for a Gigabit capable switch. I paired this up to a Linksys Wireless N Gaming adapter and now my entire entertainment system benefits from highspeed connectivity. I use this to connect an XBox 360, PS3 and when needed my laptop. Downloadable content and system updates to all devices are outstanding.
Setup is so simple. If you can plug in a cable, you can set this switch up. It really is that simple.

This switch is OK, but it does drop packets under load. I still use it to support a PC and a network printer, but not as my secondary hub with all 5 ports needed. In the more demanding role, it dropped packets when I did throughput tests. Every 3rd or 4th test would fail with a time-out. Replaced it with a Netgear 8 port GE managed switch and no more time-outs. Note that I am using a 16 port GE Netgear switch as my main hub. So not horrible for UDP applications. But not one I'd buy again, either.Customer Review: Speedy - Works Great

I bought this to connect via Gigabit Ethernet between my PC and D-Link 323 NAS. My AT&T Modem/Router is pathetic in terms of speed and reliability.
Transferring large files between the PC and NAS are now like copying it locally on the machine and a lot faster than copying from CD/DVD to the Hard Drive. It does what I want- I just wish I got the 8 port model, instead. I'm going to hook up all my game consoles to this, next, as their current wireless connections are sloooooow.
