This is a simple little cord that will give you better sound from you iPod when you plug it into your stereo. It works great at what it does and if you understand the cord's purpose and design you will be happy with a purchase.
Some cords take the sound from your iPod's headphone jack. This routes the signal through an inexpensive little chip to amplify the signal. That little chip is not needed in order to plug the iPod into your stereo and it actually degrades the sound. It also requires you to fiddle with your volume.
The dock to stereo cord bypasses that litte chip and gives you closer and clearer access to the sound in your iPod. It works! I run a little tube headphone amp for my iPod and the switch from the headphone out to this line out singal was a wonderful and not very subtle upgrade to the sound.
Now, you can get a more direct signal by buying a docking device that extracts the digital signal from your iPod so you can send it to a more expensive and capable digital to analog converter and it will sound even better. And it should for all the money you will spend to go that route! This little cable does not do that and it is priced accordingly.
It also does not charge your iPod. I am glad about that. I would prefer that the cable just pass the music and not any other current in order to protect the music. You can buy a dock for you Ipod that will charge your pod, but it will cost $50 and I wonder if it would sound as good as this little one purpose cable.
So if this is the sort of thing you want, pick this cable up. It will allow you to enjoy your music more and it is very reasonably priced.
