Customer Review: Worst DVD player ever!
Summary: 1 Stars

This is without a doubt the WORST DVD player ever produced! I was actually stupid enough to buy two of these players, because I have space limitations and needed a small player. In that case, this unit fits the bill. But if you actually want to play DVDs, then you're out of luck.

The problem with this piece of junk is that it randomly skips and breaks down the video signal while trying to watch a DVD. This happens on both regular moviess and DVD-R media. It almost always gets to the point where the video will just freeze, and I have to eject the disk. These DVDs play fine on any of the other 3 DVD players I have (regular and computer), so I know it's not the media. To boot, the 1st player I owned just up and died one day. It simply wouldn't turn on anymore.

I still needed a compact player, and the price was cheap, so I figured I'd take a shot at another one - they couldn't all be bad, right? Wrong! This player behaves EXACTLY the same as the other one. I'm not even going to wait for the power to die - I'm trashing this piece of junk and spending the $20 more it'll cost to get a decent DVD player. Do yourself a favor and do the same!

Customer Review: You can't beat it for $30!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought two of these for less than $30 a piece, brand new. I use one in my high-end home theatre to play DVD-R media. (my Toshiba SD-9000 will NOT play and burned media, even though it was $700!) The other one is in my smaller TV room. I used the component video out and optical audio out in the home theatre, and s-video, and stereo out in the TV room. Both ways provided great video and audio. Of course, the SD-9000 KILLS this thing in audio/video quality, but like I said, it was $700.00. What do you expect? I've had these units for a few months, and have had no problems with either one. The only real complaint I have is the lack of any lcd display on the unit. Although it really doesn't matter. The on-screen display is adequate. The remote is a bit confusing. All of the buttons are the same size and shape, which makes it hard to navigate in low light. But, then again, a replacement remote for my Toshiba costs more than this whole package! Again, you get what you pay for. But I've seen far worse units at a higher price that this one. I would definitely buy another one if mine broke. It's well worth the $30-40. The built in MP3 player is nice too.

Customer Review: Good value
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this player for $20 at a major appliance store nearly 4 years ago, and it has held up remarkably well. In that time I have shipped it back and forth across the country multiple times -- and we all know how those UPS guys treat packages, don't we? The point is that considering how little I paid for it, I could not have asked for a better bargain. Aside from some occasional skipping and freezing on perfectly good DVDs, it has worked very well up until now so I honestly can't complain much about it. The problem now is that when it plays DVDs, it makes horrific noises and I can tell that it's on the verge of dying at any minute. I just hope that when it does, it's not with one of my DVDs stuck inside it! Also, the remote has stopped working completely as of today, but that could just be a dead battery. Either way, though I'm annoyed at having to go through the hassle of shopping around for a new DVD player at an equally affordable cost (as they seem to have stopped making this particular model), I am not at all upset about the performance I got out of this thing -- even after all the abuse it suffered in the interim -- for only $20.

Customer Review: Excellent one if you buy the right one
Summary: 5 Stars

I brought 2 CH-DVD 300S from Sears the other day. One of them had
10S bios version (if you look at the bottom bar code there
is info on the date of manufacture and bios details)
and the other had 18S bios.

While the 10s bios one sucks (gives loud noise and hangs the
system or just plays the dvd and does not respond any commands,
bad picture quality), the other nes works perfectly well. I believe most of them for whom it never worked got the inferior
ones (older bios, old chips etc). Buy the ones which have
manufactured date after April 04 and with bios 18S or above.

The 18s bios versino one works perfectly well: DVD's DVD+R -R of various brands, VCDs, Audio
CD,s CD containing jpeg photos, a cd containing mpeg files,
Dolby digital audio is fair enough, the picture is
fair enough for the price I paid for them. If you are
looking for one with all region, one that works all
around the world (both voltage and region code), this is
the player to buy for price to performance. It beats Apex,
sanyo players in price/performance provided you got the right
working one.

Customer Review: Plays everything.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am really impressed with this little player. First, they make it easy to change the region code setting, which is important to me because I buy DVDs from England, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, etc. Second, it does a great job of properly converting PAL to NTSC and anamorphic widescreen to letterbox for my standard TV--my previous, 6-times-as-expensive player could not do both conversions simultaneously. And, this player plays almost anything I put in it:
DVD
DVD+R
DVD-R
VCD
CD
CD-R
CD+G (an audio CD with graphics; usually used for Karaoke CDs, but for the first time I was able to watch the pictures as I played my Firesign Theatre "Eat or Be Eaten" CD)
MP3 files
MPG files
JPG files (like Picture CDs)

The presence of Brightness and Contrast controls in the player makes a lot of sense, and I've never seen this offered by any other player.

It's a lot of fun, it's not noisy at all, and if it does die in 6 to 8 months like some other reviewers predict, I'll buy another one because it's so cheap, and I don't know of any other player that does so much.
