Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of CyberHome CH-DVD 300S Progressive-Scan DVD Player , SilverCustomer Review: Great dvd player Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this dvd player at Best Buy (would of bought it here but needed a replacement then and there). Anyway bought a Component Monster Cable and a seperate gold plated audio cable hooked it up and boom it worked. I was worried that since it wasn't a name brand (wanted to get a Sony) and worried that the video quality would suck and that this machine wouldn't be reliable. I was wrong worked very well, never skipped or froze and the picture quality was execlent. The old Philips DVD player I had worked and gave ok quaily but it constantly skipped and had to clean it with a cleaning disk after 1-2 dvd's or it wouldn't work properly. I'm glad it went because this machine I played already 4-5 dvd's on it and never had operation problems. The only thing that I don't like about this thing is that at some angles the machine doesn't pick up the signal from it's remote. But one of my favorite features about this machine is that it plays my burnt dvd's and the remote has the button to open and close the dvd tray. The one thing i'm just not sure about is this the same dvd player that I have because mine said on the front "CH-DVD 300" not 300s but since the one here looks exactly the same and there isnt any other that looks the same i'm guessing its the same thing.
Customer Review: You get what you pay for... Summary: 3 Stars
Yes, it is region free. Yes, good price. Yes, has a remote. Yes, has a few extra functions.
But, that's where it ended for me. I am on my second Cyberhome. The first one stopped working after 3 months. The red light would come on but wouldn't turn on nor would it open up. So I thought I got a defective one. Brought it to my local electronic store and it cost more to fix it! So I plopped down another $35 and bought another one. Same thing, this time, it lasted 4 months.
I played both approx two times a week. I didn't move it after I set it up nor did I drop it. My sister has one too so maybe it's just mines. She has dificulty getting it to turn on too but after she unplugs it and plugs it back in, it works fine.
I'm still searching for a low priced dvd player for my den but so far I'm temporarly sticking to my Sony and Panasonic.
For the price, it is the majority of why I gave it a big 3 stars. And for basic easy to read functions. For function or longevity, I give it a zero.
If Cyberhome comes out with a new model, I have to say that I will be REALLy tempted to try it for the price. Four months may be worth it. Next time I'll prob repair mines. Where else can you buy a dvd player for this cheap???
Customer Review: Best DVD Player for the money Summary: 4 Stars
I'm sorry to see that a few people have had negative experiences with this unit. I found it at Best Buy for only $35-, seemed like they were blowing them out as a loss leader just to get traffic in the store for the holidays. I wasn't even looking for a DVD player, but a small progressive scan player for $35-, wow...this I had to have and try. When I took it out of the box I was surprised how small the unit was, felt like just a few pounds and looked more like an external dvd or cdr burner. So, did it work and what was the picture quality like???YES, I've never had a problem playing any DVD with this player. The progressive scan also works, but I haven't extensively tested it. The component video output is excellent. At this price point and size there have to be some compromises, so don't expect digital sound output (no optical or coax sound outputs), but all 3 video formats are available (S-Video, Component, and Composite). For the money you can't go wrong. I haven't tried burning a CDR with all my photos, but I'm sure it will work. I still look at the unit and remember the days when a remote control cost $35 to replace, and here they throw in the DVD player. I'd have to say try it and see if it works for your purposes.
Customer Review: The best player ever, hands down. Summary: 5 Stars
Having over 600 DVDs, it was important to me to find a player that will handle all of them without a hitch. A DVD+VCR combo I had wouldn't handle scratches or burned media and the home theater system I had would overheat constantly and again, wouldn't play burned media. I invested $40 (with a $10 mail in rebate) into this player that I got at Best Buy because I heard it was top line. So after I made it region free I put in one of my PAL discs and...success! It worked! This amazing player (about 8" in length) has played my burned media, non-region 1 media and scratched discs (Even some that were really really messed up) with no problems whatsoever. You would THINK that at such a low price the player would be garbage but nope, It's sleek and very user friendly. It has some excellant features like the memory function. No more will I have to write down the time code that my dvd is on or keep the dvd in my player because if I eject the disc and put it in later, It will resume exactly where it left off.
Even if the player broke down right now, I'd buy the exact same one.
If you have invested a lot of time and money into your dvd collection, I strongly suggest you invest in a Cyberhome DVD player.
Customer Review: So far so good Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought the 300s disc player and have been very pleased. It fits nicely on the dresser next to my old Magnavox tv. You do have to use a modulator to hook it up to an older TV. Picture quality is good. It has played every kind of disc I have put into it, MP3's , jpegs, cd's and DVD's. It even plays my WHO dvd that my 300+ dollar Sony refuses to play.
Hook up was easy, I didn't even open the instruction book. The remote leaves a bit to be desired, but usually watching slide shows or movies once they are playing I rarely use the remote.
After reading the mixed reviews here though, I am keeping my fingers crossed, it seems the lifespan of these units is less than a year. But so far I am very pleased and am hoping some of the glitches have been worked out of the player, The price was to hard to resist, 39 dollars at Circuit City with a 10 dollar rebate. For 29 dollars I could buy a brand new one once a year for 10 years and still not spend as much as I spent for the Sony.
I'd say, if you want one, buy it, I don't think you will be disapointed. You do get what you pay for, and if I was setting it up on a home theater system I would for sure not be cheap with a DVD player
