Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD UPS - LCD Display 1500VA/900W AVR 8-Outlet RJ11/RJ45/Coax Tower USBCustomer Review: Much beeter UPS than BR1500, keep two systems up! Summary: 5 Stars
I have couple APC made BR1500 UPS. I even purchased addational battery packs to have them last longer time during power failure. We recently had some power failures, however, every time the BR1500 just had a long beep and cut off the AC output. BR1500 overload light kept on. I suspected the one we have gone bad, so I brought another new one from Amazon, that one doing the eaxct the same: If I had the phone system and the name server in it, it would say overload, during unplug the AC input test.
After reading so many good reviews of this UPS. I decided to give this one a try. What a difference! This UPS reported both phone system and name server combined power is 135W. I tried plug into AC and unplug from AC many times, it works flawlessly. Its LCD display also reported to me with internal battery, it will be able to run both phone system and name server for 45 minutes. I am really happy about this UPS.
I think it is a shame APC UPS rated 1500AV can not handle 135W load. I also think anyone serious about their UPS system should give this brand a look and test. The only drawback of this unit is that it does not support external battery packs to extend the battery run time.
Customer Review: Works reliably; but no option to leave display on; weak software. Summary: 4 Stars
Nice compact unit which has performed reliably in the several months that I have had it so far. It has performed through a couple of real power outages and tests.
I like to observe my power drain, however, and it is frustrating that there is no way to activate the display back-light (and cycle through the display values) except by pressing the button on the unit.
The software is rather minimally featured. For example, there is no way to tell the software to put the PC into "hibernate" mode INSTEAD of a full shutdown, in the case of a power drain. There are also limited ranges for defining automated shutdown. Furthermore, I don't know of any extended programming interfaces which would permit, for example, sending emails or text messages upon power failure, or monitoring multiple PCs with one unit.
Physically, I wish this unit could be placed horizontally in addition to the standard vertical configuration. Some competitive units have this feature.
I hope the batteries have a long life. I am tempted to purchase a second unit for home media PC, but probably will try another brand in order to aim for at least some of the missing features.
Customer Review: It Works Well. Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this device for ~3 months and during that period the power has gone out twice for many hours and has "blinked" 5 or 6 times. Half the outlets in the back of the unit provide battery power and surge protection and the other half are just surge protection. I have my Dell XPS710 PC, 20" LCD, and two external USB drives connected to the battery power and my router, modem, speakers and printer connected to the surge protected outlets. It kept my machine running for over 25 mins. when the power went out. My XPS710 is a big gaming rig, so that is just fine. All I need is enough time to finish whatever I'm doing and shut down properly. My PC ran without a hiccup. Same with the power "blinks." They do not affect my PC at all. Plus, it keeps track of all the outages. For a lesser PC, this unit would probably sustain power for much longer. I highly recommend it for protecting any important equipment.
Also, the software will automatically shut down your PC at a pre-set time (i.e., 5 mins of battery power left) in case you lose power when you are not home. Don't forget to download the latest version of the PowerPanel software at the CyberPower website.
Customer Review: Works great, expected more runtime with battery though Summary: 5 Stars
So far has worked pretty well with my Mac Pro. It says it gets about 17 minutes of battery life with my Mac Pro and a 27" Dell Utrasharp monitor plugged in - I had expected more runtime on the battery, though, as the devices together operate at about 240W and cause the Cyberpower to reach a 25% load level (for those of you researching devices, note that a 1500VA rating does not equate to 1500W). Some people have mentioned concerns about UPSs not being able to handle a computer starting up or waking from sleep while on battery power, claiming that the sudden spike in amps that occurs when a computer starts up can overload a UPS, but I haven't had that problem. It's only been a few weeks, so I can't comment on the long-term battery life. The power has gone out a few times since getting this product, but my computer stayed on and functioned normally. FYI, the device doesn't step up the voltage coming out of your outlet - if your outlet outputs 113V, the device outputs 113V. For some reason, I was under the impression that the product would reduce or increase the voltage (with battery power) to try and maintain a constant 110V or 120V.
Customer Review: Excellent (if expensive) UPS Summary: 5 Stars
This was bought as an upgrade to an older and smaller capacity CyberPower UPS. Both have worked flawlesslessly, and the new bigger one provides enough capacity for running a full gaming rig, widescreen, and when plugged in, a 17" display laptop.
The software also allows you to monitor the UPS status from a PC connected via a USB cable, and it will shutdown your applications before shutting down the PC upon a power failure, if you are not there at the time, which is nice.
After having problems with my PC after a couple of prior power failures, this is good insurance to avoid those problems, if a bit expensive.
My only con about the UPS is that it would be nice if the LCD screen were on, even if in a low power mode, to read it without having to hit the button to turn that little screen on each time.
My advice before buyting a UPS - make a realistic estimate of your power requirements first, and then get one that covers that easily plus any expected upgrades, so that you have the proper capacity for your system.
