Customer Review: Easy with Mac

I purchased this after considering the ones from APC. The higher VA rating and similar price helped make that decision. It arrived promptly from Amazon. The manufacture's packing was plenty adequate to protect it, even though Amazon didn't protect it much more.
I have an Imac running 10.4. I didn't need any of the enclosed software. Installation was much easier than expected! Just plug it in, plug the Mac into it, and connect the USB cable. I then went to the Mac energy saver control panel and saw the UPS as a new option that hadn't been there before. It shows the battery level and has options for automatic shutdown should you loose power. One option is to shut down when the battery drops to a certain level, which I think is nice to keep the system running as long as possible. There's a new battery icon in the bar at the top of the finder window now (by the clock) that shows the battery charge % and alerts when it is running on backup.
We have had several power outages, and flicking light situations with the high winds lately, and it has kicked right in flawlessly. The computer never missed a beat even though all the digital clocks were flashing.
I've not tested the total run time on UPS, but figure it is what it is- there is only so much you can expect from batteries of this capacity.
Over all I'm quite pleased. No downside so far.

I picked up this unit from a local retailer a few months ago. At first I was going to purchase a Belkin or APC UPS just based of previous units I've used and name recognition but instead bought this CyberPower unit based on price. As soon as I got home I was immediately impressed by this unit!
The ports on the back are well spaced and offer voltage regulation in case of low power (or over voltage as well). This is a big plus in my older house where the quality of wiring can vary from plug to plug. It also has surge protection on all ports as well as coax and ethernet.
The LCD screen really is good, and quite useful at time too. The most impressive feature is the ability for it to show the power draw (in kW) of the connected components. This let me know exactly how much power my system was drawing in real time. I even took it and hooked it to my refrigerator to see how much power it was drawing!
The software that comes with it is handy, and monitors the device from the USB connection on the back. It supports logging of power events and outages, shows battery charge levels and load levels, and scheduling of times for every day of the week to turn on or off components attached.
I'd recommend this in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a good UPS and would purchase one again if I had the need!

I chose a Cyberpower because I already had one and it works great. The Tripp Lite software would not run on my Win7 64 bit computer. APC and Monster were just too expensive for the features and Cyberpower seems to be just as well made.
Things to consider regarding UPS:
1) Clean power is good. Odd things can happen with a powersource that is full of interference or too far above/below what your device is expecting.
2) You want your computer to do a graceful shutdown while you are away when the power goes out because there is a decent chance that your hard drive will become corrupted otherwise.
3) Most computers will operate just fine with the stepped square wave output (simulated sine wave) of cheaper devices like this. The hardware required to get a true sine wave from a DC battery that will look 100% like the sine wave from A/C power is very expensive and generally unnecessary. If you have an "Active PFC" powersupply, your odds of needing a UPS two to four times as expensive as this one increase.
4) It is a useful tool to judge just how much power your equipment is using and how reliable your electric company is as the software will tell you both. The former is useful if you are trying to decide if you need a more powerful power supply in your computer.

When I was looking for a UPS, I read bad reviews on both the APC and CyberPower and decided on CyperPower based on the fact that it had less negative reviews. Several reviews that worried me were about that once the power is unplugged, the battery will drain fairly quickly, others stated that it is lightweight to hold enough charge..
As soon as I received it, I plugged it in and forgot about it for two days. Then installed the software on the PC and plugged the PC (Quad Core, 8GB, 5 Hard Disks, and many USB junk plus NEC 26" monitor) then unplugged the power from the UPS.
The UPS indicated that the load is 30% and remaining time was 19 minutes. I delayed the auto shut-down until there is 5 minutes of juice, and continued working on my PC watching the minutes counter on the UPS.
What I found is that although the timer is indicating between 19-22 minutes, it did not actually start to drop down quickly rather continued oscillating between those numbers for a while. I worked on the PC for more than 25 minutes when finally the auto shut-down kicked-in (actually it hyphenated the PC).
The only negative I can think of now is the packaging, they should produce more professional & sturdy packaging. I don't think any body actually read all the stuff on the overly colourful package.

I bought this because our new home was experiencing power brown-outs due to storms and the fact that we are a new development and from what I can tell, the power company is turning our part of the grid off and on for whatever reason. I complained about it but that has nothing to do with the review.
Initially I installed the software that came with the UPS but it effectively made Windows not be able to talk to it. The software is not very full featured even when compared with native windows features.
After removing the software from my server (server controls the rest of the network) and installing a Windows home server add-in (Grid Junction) I am now able to have the server send shutdown commands over the network to my other non-laptop systems (which have their own dumb-UPS). This UPS is providing backup power for my server, my "main pc" and monitor, my DSL modem and wifi router. With all of those things plugged in I have 28 minutes of power. That is plenty of time for my server to send the shutdown commands and then shut itself down. The UPS isn't designed to keep your system up and running for extended periods of time. My idea of the perfect UPS is one that gives you enough time to properly shutdown all your systems so they don't crash due to a power outage.
