Customer Review: LOVE it! A layman's review
Summary: 5 Stars

As an animator, I work with a lot of multimedia files on my computer, which I'd absolutely hate to lose, especially if I'm in the middle of working on one. I'd suffered through several losses before, but a brownout in December of 2009 that destroyed my entire system was the last straw, and with my new computer I purchased this UPS.

Aside from some trial and error that was completely my fault (see below), this UPS has performed flawlessly for me. Since I started using it, it's saved me from 2 blackouts and 1 brownout. During these blackouts, my computer functioned normally and the little UPS kept on keepin' on until the power returned.

The trial and error situation happened because I'm not circuit-breaker savvy. As I understand it, the UPS works as its own circuit breaker, which means you have to tread with the circuit-breaker in your own house, or in my case, your own apartment. So for novices, here's my layman's advice:

* Make sure the UPS is fully powered up -- as in it's finished doing its startup beeping and such -- BEFORE you try to turn any of your plugged-in appliances on. Just because the LDC screen and light is on doesn't mean it's ready for you to start turning everything on. I was careless and tried to turn my computer on before the UPS was fully powered up and ended up tripping my breaker, turning my entire apartment off. Everything was fine, but I learned my lesson. :)

Also, though I've managed, I wish there were a few more transformer-spaced outlets on this thing.

I use a Mac. Apparently the UPS companion software for Macs is bad, but I've never had to install or use it -- I use this UPS to protect my stuff from power problems, and I've never had the need to use it as a battery for more than 5 minutes.

I really recommend this model -- it's easy to use, and it does the job!

Customer Review: Has saved my bacon more times than I can count!

I originally bought this back when I lived in the city, and I rarely had power outages. I mostly got it to protect my equipment from the occasional brown out we had.

I've since moved to a rural area where we frequently lose power during bad storms. In fact, the power just went out 5 minutes ago, which is what reminded me to write this review.

The CyberPower 1500 has been there every time the power went out to keep my systems up and running until either the power came back on or I was able to shut them down properly.

I don't use any of the advanced automated shutdown features, so I can't review them. But it is an extremely reliable at protecting me from power losses. It also helps regulate the power when the A/C kicks on and causes the voltage on my line to dip.

As for noise, it has an internal fan, but it is very quiet when it is in standby mode. I have to put my ear right next to the box to hear it, and it is inaudible compared to my computer fan, which isn't all that loud. If you put it back away under your desk somewhere then noise shouldn't be an issue at all. The only time I hear it is when it kicks into gear when the power goes out, and honestly, who cares how loud a UPS is when it is keeping your machine from shutting down due to a power outage?

The 1500 is probably more UPS than most people need. I have a 3 computer setup and I potentially need all of them plus 2 monitors to stay on when the power goes. People with only 1 machine can probably get a smaller model.

I think for this price, this is an excellent device for anyone who lives in an area that has any kind of intermittant power issues. It has saved me tons of anguish and time from lost work. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a UPS/line voltage regulator.

Customer Review: Just what the (PC) Doctor ordered

I was using a smaller APC UPS when the breaker blew due to an overload of the circuit. My computer was on it, as well as my wife's blowdryer and her bathroom heater. The old UPS did a long beep and quit. Luckily, no disk damage and no data loss. I added that UPS to her computer system, and after a lot of research got this one.

I tested it under full load by pulling the plug. The AC output voltage didn't change, and a discharge was indicated. The front panel on the computer is much better than nothing, but nothing compared to the virtual front panel I get from the monitoring software.

After I had installed the monitoring software, the breaker blew again, for the same reason. Before I reset the breaker, I looked at the software front panel and was impressed by what I saw.

I guessed about how much UPS I needed. I added twice the wattage of the nVidia video card I have to the actual wattage of the APC UPS to get a minimum wattage for the new UPS. It came out to around 800 watts. This UPS has a wattage of about 975, and a VA rating of about 1600, so I thought it would work, and might be marginal. I wasn't ready to spend a kilbuck for the next higher rated UPS.

With the power panel, I can see I have a backed up load of 275 watts, so I could have gone with a smaller UPS. However, with this UPS, I have a lot of growth before I need a new one.

Delivery was really fast. It actually came before I got the final delivery notice.

Its also a real brick. My wife thought it weighed a ton, and it was a bit of a task to get it into position. Its under my computer desk, hidden away, and the front panel isn't visible. I don't need it with the power panel software.

Overall, I'm very glad I have it.

Customer Review: Great buy, lacks master/ slave outlets
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the cyberpower 1500 avr about 6 months ago to replace my insufficient APC ES 750. I read some good reviews, and you really can't beat the power rating for the price. (it has a whopping four 9Ah batteries to the APC 750's one 7.5Ah batt. if you do the math, there's a more than double the actual battery amp hours to the power rating for the ciberpower 1500).

When a circuit breaker in the house got tripped, it the cp 1500 performed perfectly, and kept my robust system running during the 5 or so minute interruption (an 8-core mac pro with 2 dell monitors, and 2 external hard drives all on the battery support).

The on screen display is a nice bonus, though it turns off ater 1 minute with no option to keep it on. In any case though, it's nice, for example to see how much juice my system is using when it's asleep (0.0kw), in normal use (0.34kw) or under heavy load (0.4kw).

On the down side, I do miss the lack of the master/ slave outlet feature that my APC had (allowing things like printers or speakers to be automatically powered down when the computer is turned off). It surprised me that it lacked this power saving feature when they make such a big thing of the power saved by it's ability to bypass the inverter when not relying on the battery (itself a nice feature). It also sits nicely next to the mac pro tower, and remains quiet and relatively cool.

pros:
-price
-truth in advertising as to load run time
-has worked reliably during power failure
-display
-integrates with mac OS X energy saver

cons:
-no master/slave outlets
-display turns off after 1 min

Would i buy it again? YES.

Customer Review: Has already Paid for itself

I have had the Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD UPS - LCD Display 1500VA/900W AVR 8-Outlet RJ11/RJ45/Coax Tower USB (Purchased on 04/25/2009) a few days short of a month.

I live in an area where my power blinks, has brown-outs, and full outages several times a week. It does not help that I am the only house on my line and no one else calls to complain of the problems. I have lost two PCs due to these problems and really needed something to protect my newest purchase.

I'm not really "Up" on the technical aspects, and really only bought it because it had a larger VA than the other Cyberpowers and I have a very powerful gaming PC so thought it might be best. I received it on time, it was packed well, and the packaging was in good condition. I had it out of the box and set up within five minutes, with my PC, Monitor, Router and Modem plugged in. (What I actually did was just plug the surge protector they were all plugged into, into the Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD Unit). It showed that I had 33 minutes of backup and that was good enough for me... Plenty of time to save and shut down any game or application I might be playing or running, and shut down my PC.

It only took three days after receiving it to see how well it worked in an actual situation, and just within this last week I have had four full-blown outages, all during all of these, the Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD kicked in, flawlessly and seamlessly, allowing me to safely save/end my game and shut down my PC. In my opinion it has paid for itself several times over already, and I have recommended it friends and family.
