Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of CyberPower High-Speed 7-Port USB HubCustomer Review: Best USB Hub I've used Summary: 5 Stars
I previously purchased a Belkin USB 2.0 Plus Hub (7 Port) F5U307-BRN. The latter device became searingly hot and I was concerned that it might be dangerous. It also seemed to constantly lose connection with the attached devices so that I was constantly hearing the chime sound on my computer as the USB devices came on and off line. I returned it.
My CyberPower hub has had NONE of these issues and I am delighted with it. The vertical orientation is a bit tippy/awkward when "fully loaded" with USB connections, but that's about the only thing I'd complain about, and it's really not a big issue. I highly recommend this device.
I also wanted to add that on my device ALL of the green LEDs are lit whether or not the device is attached to the external power cord. I note the same pattern on one of the uploaded customer images. One reviewer (@Kevin Calman "Otaku", Austin, TX USA) said these green LEDs were power overload indicators and that they were not lit on his device. Not my experience....
The blue LED is pretty "brilliant". I actually unhooked my device from the power cord so that it shuts down when I shut my computer down (and the LEDs turn off). None of my devices required external power, and when left attached to the cord, the hub and its LEDs remain on 24/7. If left on, the LEDs are so bright that I see the glow from my bedroom across the hallway!
Customer Review: It works as it should, right out of the box Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the hub because I have a Maxtor external hard drive that requires two USB ports to power and operate it. When I had that attached to my laptop, I could not use any other device that required USB. I tried using my old Belkin powered hub, but for some reason, the hub wouldn't power up.
There are such horror stories about electronics that I fully expected the Cyberpower Hub not to work. As soon as I got it I plugged it in and connected the Maxtor, my Palm Centro smartphone, two printers and a card reader (I'm a real estate agent and need the card to open lockboxes). Everything worked exactly as it should, and I still have one port left on the Cyberpower and one on my laptop, so I can now charge my Ipod as well. I'm very happy with this product.
Two comments on some of the other reviews:
1. My laptop is old and only has USB 1.1, this hub works fine with it.
2. If the computer is turned off, the Cyberpower hub will still charge your devices, such as smartphones.
I bought the hub through Amazon, used the free supersaver shipping and had it faster than Amazon had promised. If I have any complaint, it is my usual one, that the product had too much packaging. I had to cut through several layers of clear plastic to get the hub out. I highly recommend the Cyberpower hub, which I had never heard of before I read the reviews on Amazon.
Customer Review: Works as described, but not aesthetically appealing Summary: 4 Stars
This usb hub works exactly as the manufacturer describes.
i only have 5 ports used at this time (keyboard, mouse, printer, thumbdrive & webcam)...i kept the heavy load items (2 Huge external harddrives) connected to the main ports in the pc because i didn't want any possibility of the hub overloading/oveheating.
The lights/LED's (7 green and 1 BRIGHT Blue) aren't as bothersome to me as some have described, i don't even really notice them, maybe because the hub is not directly in my line of view.
The concern i had was how it would stay upright with so many cables plugged into it, due to it being so Very small, but seems to be no problem.
The only complaint i would have is that it is not aesthetically appealing to look at due to the cables plugging into both "sides" of the unit...a better idea/design (IMO) would have been to have the cables plug into the rear of the unit so that it wouldn't look like some kind of injured spider with all the wires sticking straight out from both sides.
All in all, was definitely worth the money.
*side note*
i usually get alot of my pc products somewhere else (Amazon is usually very close to being the lowest and gets alot of my business, but NE gets more of my puter parts business due to lower prices), but this time Amazon had them beat hands down!
WTG Amazon!
Customer Review: Lest we forget the importance of a lifetime warranty Summary: 5 Stars
I did my research for this product before I took the plunge and the one thing that stood out to me was the fact that this USB hub came with a lifetime warranty. All of the other competitors did not offer that as a promissory note to the integrity of their product as did the CyberPower.
Outside of some of the negative reviews that I have seen; one actually saying that it completely fried out their computer, I more-so found several great and informative reviews on this product which further prompted my decision when purchasing it.
I currently use the hub, swapping it between a home PC and a laptop for the purposes of powering external music production hardware and I might add that the transition is seamless and trouble free when doing so. The only problems I experience is having to reload the drivers for some of the hardware, but that was present before the hub was put into the chain.
In the end I cannot speak on others experiences, but where mine is concerned this product lives up to it's claims and has a lifetime warranty if it doesn't perform as promised.
The only thing that burns my skillet about this is the introduction of USB 3.0 and the fact that I will eventually have to replace this to keep up with the ever-changing scape of technology; but isn't that the way it always goes?
Customer Review: Caused me to lose all of my data Summary: 1 Stars
It's a nice-looking product. It seems like I would have liked it. But...
My unit had an electrical problem. I connected two portable external hard drives, one powered external hard drive, a printer, an external DVD+-RW drive, a mouse and a keyboard. Then I plugged it in.
First I noticed my mouse didn't work. So I unplugged it and plugged in another one. "That's strange, that one doesn't work either," I thought. "Hmmm, and what's that smell?" Turns out, that smell was a hard drive frying. Once I figured that out I unplugged everything and waited.
After a few hours, when I figured everything would have cooled down, I started testing my devices. One portable external drive still "sort of" works. I can see most of the file structure but copying attempts fail. The powered external hard drive mostly worked for a couple days and then quit. One portable hard drive never worked again. The optical drive still works, occasionally, but typically won't boot. Occasionally the printer works. The mice never worked again. And the keyboard was fine. Everything's been tested on 3 different PC systems and 1 Linux system.
The worst part? Those were my redundant data storage. I lost everything.
