Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of CyberPower CP1000AVRLCD 9-Outlet Intelligent LCD UPS (1000VA/600W)Customer Review: A Powerful and Compact UPS Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this unit because my APC unit failed after three years. It seemed like a battery problem, but putting new batteries in the unit did not solve the problem. This was my third APC failure in the past few years (three failures out of five units purchased). So I decided to try a CyberPower unit. Time will tell how it holds up over the longer term, but at this point, I really like the unit. I have two computers, a laptop, router, switch, modem, and phone hooked to the unit and it handles the load with ease.
I love the display as well. This display is similar to the APC display in that by pushing a button, you can show output voltage, input voltage, output frequency, current load in kilowatts (why not watts?), and estimated run time with current load, percent battery charge, and percent load. It has an indicator bar for the battery charge and current load. It also sports various indicators for different parameters.
It has a large blue indicator which is also the power on/off button, and provides AVR or automatic voltage regulation for an input range of 90 to 140V. Remember that watts and VA are two different things. This 1KVA unit will provide for 600W of load not 1KW.
The unit has five battery/surge protected outlets and four surge only outlets. This is more the adequate for my needs and I would think most people's needs.
Overall, I really like this unit. Will the long term reliability beat the APC units? Time will tell.
Customer Review: Informative display, good functionality Summary: 4 Stars
A UPS is one of those products you don't give much thought to until you are in a situation where you REALLY need it to work. The display on the Cyberpower is a great feature - tells you all sorts of useful info such as your battery status, run time, load level and others so you always know what's going on.
Nice footprint, puts out very little heat (compared to a Tripplite that this replaces which threw off a huge amount of heat - nice in the winter time, but not so nice in the summer), simple setup. My only complaint, and the reason it lost one star, is the spacing of the outlets. You have to use outlet extenders if you have the "wall wart" transformers. I have three of them (modem, router and external hard drive) - they all fit on the Tripplite since it offers widely spaced outlets, but couldn't fit them into the Cyberpower without extenders.
The other nit is the location of the power button. It's right on the face of the unit, and you have to be careful not to hit it accidentally. A better design would be to either locate it somewhere else or, better yet, put a safety lock on it so you can ensure you don't power down unless you truly want to do so.
Both are minor issues and can be easily worked around. I'm very pleased with the unit so far, and recommend it to anyone looking for a good UPS and a nice price.
Customer Review: Keeps Electronics Up Summary: 5 Stars
The reviews for this product are pretty good already, I just wanted to add another 5-star review. I currently have a Mac, 23" LED-backlit display, external drives, alarm clock, and lamp attached to the battery side of this device. Pulling the plug originally showed >65 minutes of remaining time. It's been unplugged for about 5 minutes and the time has gone UP to 75 minutes. Yes, the device is the lightest UPS I've ever seen, and I have used more UPS than most people will see in a lifetime. The "I'm running on battery" beep is very silent and sounds once every 30 seconds. The included USB cable interfaces directly with Mac OS X's Energy Saver control panel for auto-shutdown and also shows charging status in the menu bar if desired -- no additional software needed.
We all used to swear by APC. Despite the weight of this unit and cost per VA being very deceiving, I can't find a show-stopping flaw. Other reviewers who say they are techies have, so maybe there is a quality control issue. It's worth nothing the dates on the more negative reviews though. This UPS already saved my butt on more than one occasion, and at the end of the day, that's ALL A UPS NEEDS TO DO.
I happily recommend this product.
Customer Review: Great value, but the backup time is short Summary: 4 Stars
As an IT professional, I have purchased UPS battery backup units from several companies over the years. CyberPower makes a decent product, and this unit is no exception. But you need to be aware that this product is aimed at the home user market. It is lightweight because the battery that it uses is fairly small. If you look this unit up on the CyberPower website, you will find that the estimated backup time at half load (300W) is six minutes, and at full load (600W), it is only one minute. By way of comparison, APC offers a similar unit - the BR1000G - which is also available at Amazon. Although it is about 35% more expensive, it offers much longer backup times (20 minutes at half load, and 7 minutes at full load). It also weighs about five pounds more. That extra weight is mostly due to the larger battery. I have nothing against this CyberPower unit, I just wanted to make sure that people are aware of what they are buying.
Edit: I just wanted to add that I confirmed with CyberPower that the RJ45 network ports on this product do not support a gigabit connection. The network ports on the APC BR1000G do support a gigabit connection according to the APC website.
Customer Review: Looks cool, works Summary: 5 Stars
Lots of jacks (five filtered and battery backed up, four surge only)although the spacing means you would lose jacks if any of your connections are the transformer type.
This is the first unit I mounted (or would have been willing to) on my desktop as it is compact, the body is rounded and sophisticated looking instead of the normal functional block look and the blue display is cool looking.
It gives you a graphical display of current load, battery capacity and voltage output.
To me the AVR circuitry is a must for the delicate electronical equipment I have on it.
I got a real world test from a lightning storm generated black out the first night I had it online.
I was recording to a DVR, working with a new video editor while an external SATA hard drive dock was getting data transferred to it.
Momentary blackout and the UPS kept all units functioning. Testing operations later showed the recording and data backup flawless.
I have not tested the included software or Serial/USB connections as I do not intend to use those with my set up.
Happy with the purchase.
