Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Zen X-Fi 16 GB Video MP3 Player with Wireless LAN and Built-In Speaker (Black/Silver)Customer Review: Zen X-fi wireless a winner Summary: 5 Stars
After owning and loving a Zen Jukebox for many years, I was nervous about finding a replacement.
I chose the X-Fi wireless because of the extra storage, large screen, sd slot and radio.
After a week with the new Zen, it works like a champ. I found the software to be intuitive and easier than the old. I really appreciate that it rips and loads at same time....saves lots of time when loading.
I'm still getting used to the buttons, but I find those easy also.
Since my old Zen died, I was not able to reload from my old Zen. I say this because I can't speak to that issue.
The USB cable that comes with the Zen is veeeeeeery short. Most of us have lots of these, but I wonder about the reasoning.
I bought one of the clear hard cases made for the Zen and am glad for my choice.
LOVE the micro SD slot, I use it right now for podcasts.
I haven't used the video or photo features yet.
The FM radio works great. I didn't know if I would actually use it, but I do.
I believe the speaker feature will be useful. They actually sound a lot better than I thought they might.
The ear buds that come with the unit are Fantastic!
One concern may be the size of the buttons. They are just fine for my medium hands, but my husband has extra large paws. We shall see as he tries to use it and soon will need a replacement for his old Zen.
So far I am again very satisfied with my choice and hope to have a long run with this Creative Labs product.
Did I mention that it rips and loads at same Review: Great MP3 Player Summary: 5 Stars
After researching quite a few other players available, I finally settled on the Zen X-Fi, and so far, I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. I wanted a player that was compatable with subscription content (I've used Rhapsody To Go for quite a few years) and it works as it should. I wanted decent video quality - the Zen has a great screen, and video playback is very clean. And most important, I wanted good sound reproduction, and the Zen is excellent. Excellent, without any need for the X-Fi settings that the player has a available. This will most likely be a personal choice, and largely dependant on the type of headphones you use, but I find the sound reproduction much better with all of the additional sound enhancement settings turned off. Battery life is very good - I don't know about 30+ hours good, but I'm getting more than 20. I love the expansion slot for an extra media card, but I hate that Creative doesn't let you access the data the same way you do from the players main memory. This is a gripe from just about everyone, and it doesn't look like Creative is going to do anything about it anytime soon. I can tell you that several different makes of 8 gig cards have worked for me so far. I guess to summarize - the Zen is an excellent player, with a lot of features, at a great price point. I would definately recommend this player to anyone, and my only regret is that I didn't just shell out the extra money and get the 32gig version, instead of the 16gig. I'm using it much more than I thought I would, and I can use all the storage space I can get :)
Customer Review: JUNK Summary: 1 Stars
Got this as a gift and what a piece of JUNK! I wanted the iPod, but my significant other didn't want to jump on the bandwagon and really pushed me in the direction of the Creative. I wish I hadn't been so easily swayed. This thing stinks. I had a Creative MP3 player before this (in fact my significant other and I had the same one) and I loved it. It is about 5 years old now and still working - I would use it regularly, but it doesn't hold much music and the screen is so tiny.
Any way...I have had nothing but technical problems with this thing since I got it. The buttons are possessed and work when they see fit. Very irritating when you are trying to turn down the sound, skip tracks, or use the other function on the player. I have loaded and reload the software several times and run numerous recovery programs on it.
Ultimately, Creative jerked me around for over a month and then never responded to my warranty claim. I finally found a phone number for them that worked (they do not do phone customer service, email is the preferred method) and they said they had no record of my claim and there was nothing they could do.
If you are seriously considering buying from them you should think about customer service and its importance. This is not an accessible company. If you type Creative Lab customer service into a search engine you will see the numerous complaints against them. If you are fortunate enough to get a product that is not faulty I am jealous of you. I will never buy a Creative product again.
Customer Review: Creative Zen, if you like buttons! Summary: 4 Stars
I've always had Creative products so I have a slight favoritism towards the brand already, nothing as other brands, I just happen to prefer mp3 players with buttons and a keybad - if you hate the wheel scrolling thing, then this would be a great alternative for you. The latest Zen X-Fi2 comes with both a touch screen and keypad, the only reason I chose this version was because it came with WiFi, something the XFi2 strangely decided to not include. Although now that I have this, I would've gone for Xfi2 because the WiFi is basically useless, I barely use it, you can chat and stuff on it, but really, the keypad was more set up for music scrolling than chatting, so it is a huge bother to type on it, especially if you already have a smartphone or some other wifi capabilities on your other gadgets. As for the player itself, I like it alot, it's sleek and smooth, it's fairly straightforward and easy to use, I can sort by any way I want my music to be, create playlists, store all my music, video and whatever file I want, since it's basically just a drag and drop storage device as well. As mentioned, my only gripe would be that the unmarked buttons might be a little confusing at first and a little overkill - the reason i wanted a keypad and had earlier creative's was because it was just straightforward and simple, now they've added a whole smattering of buttons, it's just gotten a little over the top. but still intuitive enough that i can play my music without having to glance at my player.
Customer Review: external speaker deciding factor for me Summary: 5 Stars
Bottom line for me..over 40 and just a girl...not an audiophile at all... the external speaker was the deciding factor...anyone like me who does not like to use earphones for will love this... the sound is more than adequate for me..and I can listen to it in the house, car etc without any extra wires/adapters, car kits , boom boxes etc... I will get a car charger and of course if I ever decide to exercise ( ha ha) I will use the earphones...sure that little bright green Ipod is very cool... but for me to enjoy it I would have had to invest in all kinds of extra gadgets when my Zen X-Fi is all I need... a few notes :
*I would have bought the regular 16gb Zen if it had had the external speaker..
*I don't need the X-FI whatever that is, nor the wireless lan... the 8mg
without the wireless probably would have been adequate for me but I
wanted the 16gb
*no problems at all loading cds, and barely read any instructions.. used
windows media player not the Creative ... not sure why but will try the
other next time..but the sync was no problem...
*I have not tried to buy any music or videos yet so I can't speak to the
software issues...
*my videos from my computer look really good on the Zen.. and my photos
*navigation is not hard..I've never had an mp3 player so I have nothing
to compare it to.. like anything else once you use it a few times you
get used to it...
