I bought this Zen after first buying a Zen Stone. The Zen Stone was my first mp3 player. I wanted a player to listen to audio talks with the ability to stop the talk and come back to the same spot later. The Zen Stone did not have a display and so it was a process of hunt and peck. The Zen has a display with a counter and it holds my spot when I stop.
In addition to being what I need for listening to talks it also has many extra features that are nice to have: recording function, radio, photo storage and display, video storage and display, clock and date, a place to insert a storage device etc.
The main drawback to the Zen that I have found is the software is not user friendly for people like myself who are new to this type of technology. It was quite frustrating getting it installed and figuring out how to use the many features. I rely on the web site e-mail support to answer my questions. There is no phone support. So, if you are new to mp3 players be prepared to spend a few days figuring things out. I still don't understand how to use all of the features but I am at least confident that it works and that I will learn eventually.

I've had this player for about a week now and I am thoroughly impressed. I doubt that you could find a player with more bang for the buck on the market at this time. The display screen is just gorgeous with a crisp level of detail that you just can't find for >$80. It's feature rich and menu items are easy to navigate through. It has a slim profile and is light weight but doesn't feel cheaply built. Battery life appears to be great, but I mostly use it for the gym so I haven't fully tested that aspect. Sound reproduction is clear and there are plenty of EQ settings that you can mess with. Start-up, load and sync times are refreshingly quick. The Zen's SD card expansion slot is a great bonus too.
I bought this after owning a SanDisk Sansa e250 after having some issues with it. I do miss the jog dial on the Sansa though. It's much easier to adjust the volume with the Sansa's jog dial when it's in your pocket than the Zen's almost flush buttons & D-pad. Some sacrifice of tactile buttons for sleek and clean design. Make sure you slap screen protector film on this puppy as soon as you get it because it scratches easily. Overall an enjoyable buy.

After buying 2 Sandisk Sansa models (Express and Fuze), and having them be DOA and very uninspiring (in that order) I have to say the Creative ZEN is exactly what I wanted in a portable MP3 Player that also has Video chops. I am a tech saavy guy, and in the Fuze especially it was a nightmare trying to get compatible video onto the player. With the ZEN, most of my digital camera AVI's transferred, while others had to be converted but DIVX and XVID play fine when using the right settings (320x240 or 320x160 for Widescreen). The screen on this player is eye popping and bottom line, IT WORKS. Customize your wallpaper to your photos or the ones included, small features make the difference. The volume and fidelity are bar none to anything I have heard. Be blown away by this player! $69 to $79 for a 2GB Player, buy a 2GB SD (not micro!) or have one laying around and this is a beautiful, functional, bass dropping loud 4GB player that is equally comfortable at the Gym or in the airport. That says volumes. Absolutely in love, when I was so frustrated before. Creative does things right. Be happy with this credit card sized bomb on the MP3/MP4 industry.Customer Review: Perfect for gym use.

I bought this player for use at the gym and I have found it to be an excellent player for this purpose. To start with, it is very small and light-weight which makes it ideal for wearing with an armband. Also, it has FM radio which to me is a must-have for the gym if you want to listen while watching the TVs in the gym. It is very easy to toggle between music and FM radio.
The sound quality on this player is excellent. I used to have a SanDisk Sansa e250. The difference in sound quality is remarkable. Also, you have numerous EQ settings including a customizable one.
There are other features that make this player excellent such as a button that you can set to do any action you want. You can watch video (the screen is very nice), it has a microphone for voice recordings, photos, and store contact information.
The other bonus is the SD card slot. One thing of note about this is that content stored on the SD card is filed separately from the internal memory of the player and so when you select "Random Play All" it won't include content on the card. But you can store albums, video, etc., on the card.

This is one great mp3 player! The sound quality is absolutely superb and its ease of use is very good. What I especially like about the Zen is its capacity as an sd card reader. I never use the native memory on this player at all but rely exclusively on the sd card. This way I can store all my music in one place and (most important of all for my purposes) it makes the Zen
Mac compatible! The native memory is designed to work exclusively with Windows and, working on a Mac, that memory is dead to me. But the sd card is non-discriminatory as far as operating systems and you can download anything to it and it works just fine! With sd cards being relatively inexpensive today, it makes great sense to purchase the Creative Zen and get an expandable memory card of whatever size you choose. In my experience, the FM radio has no reception, but other people claim they do receive adequate reception so I guess it just depends on where you live. The player is subject to occasional freezes, but there is a simple reset button at the bottom of the player that corrects this. You will not go wrong purchasing the Creative Zen!
