Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Labs SB0570 PCI Sound Blaster Audigy SE Sound Card

Customer Review: Garbage
Summary: 1 Stars

Before you buy anything from Creative, google the words incompatible + legacy drivers + sounblaster + windows xp

Huge compatibiltiy issues that will have Creative Tech help telling you to flash and update your system bios, chipsets, leaving an entire PCI slot between Sounblaster card and any other card, update drivers, yada, yada, etc. Read all of the issues from the aforementioned google, and ignore the Creative employee reviews (they are easy to spot). Creative ignores the fact that its products have huge conflicts with Windows operating systems.

Customer Review: Not fully compatible with Windows Vista yet
Summary: 2 Stars

This sound card has a "Works with Windows Vista" sticker on the box, but the software that came in the box is only compatible with Windows 2000 and XP.

You can get a basic Windows Vista driver (but no additional software) from Creative's web site, but that driver has known problems with crackling and studdering noises in games that use DirectX. Read the Creative support forum, and you'll find dozens of angry customers who are having the same problem.

I'm sure that the card works great with Windows XP, but as a Vista user I got hosed!

Customer Review: Good, but beware
Summary: 3 Stars

As others have said this is a good sound card. But beware that once you've installed the card, there's no going back. Installing the Audigy SE disabled my onboard sound permanently, even after physically removing the card and uninstalling its drivers. And I couldn't get the onboard sound back even after doing a System Restore in Windows XP! I was planning to go back to the onboard sound and use this card in a different computer, but once the card is installed it's a permanent commitment. Never thought I'd be legally married to a piece of computer hardware.

Customer Review: True HiFi
Summary: 5 Stars

My computer came with terrific nForce4 onboard sound compared to my first two rigs that had onboard sound. But everything I read mentioned that a dedicated soundboard would make a difference nonetheless. Boy that's true!! My music library came alive with a new soundstage as the bass is now tighter and the music "breaths" on my Logitech Z-2300 2.1 speakers. For under $30 bucks! But a little disapointed, as others have pointed out, that in-game hardware acceleration is not always fully supported in games. That's an easy compromise for a budget card.

Customer Review: Good Product, Bad Support
Summary: 3 Stars

While this card delivers great sound and features, woe be to he or she that experience a problem. Tech support is limited to a bank of seemingly recently graduated DeVry students who seem to be able to do little more than quote help files, and really aren't familiar with the hardware they're supporting. Hard as I tried to get a direct answer to my problem, all they could do is throw more help file links at me. When I asked to be directed to Level 2 support (a commonality in the industry) I was told that there was only one level.
