Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Labs SB0570 PCI Sound Blaster Audigy SE Sound CardCustomer Review: Gets the job done. Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good cheap sound card for those looking to go away from onboard audio without spending an arm and a log for a bunch of features and hype that most people really don't need. I hear a bit more detail in my music and games using this card as compared to the Realtek onboard audio on my motherboard. I actually only ended up with this card after purchasing it to try and solve a problem I was having with audio stuttering using the onboard audio. It turned out to be an issue with my motherboard, not the onboard audio specifically (so the sound card didn't fix the problem), but after using the card for a few weeks, I've decided to keep it anyway since I can notice some subtle differences in the quality of my sound as compared to the onboard audio on my motherboard.
Customer Review: no-frills GREAT sound Summary: 5 Stars
If you are looking for a no-frills answer to good sound, this is an excellent option. I'm not someone that is looking to edit and create sounds on my computer, but I have a very large library of music to which I listen while I work or play. The computer I built for home came with 7.1 on the MB, but it just didn't cut the mustard. I needed a cheap sound card, but wanted one that would adequately handle my 6.1 speakers and provide good sound. Creative has always been a leader in sound, so I gave the Audigy SE a shot. I am NOT disappointed! As I stated, there is not a lot of frills. You can play with some synthesized sounds, but for the most part, it is a simple equalizer that perfectly fits the purpose I required. Easy install with no problems at all.
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS SOUND CARD!!! Summary: 1 Stars
This is not a 5.1 sound card. I repeat. THIS IS NOT A 5.1 SOUND CARD. I have years of experience with computers and with sound systems. I don't know why you would buy this card if it doesn't play 5.1 sound and the resulting sound is no better than the on-board sound. A waste of money. If you are still unconvinced of whether to buy this, then if you do, and in a year's time you need tech support or any type of question for that matter, they will not answer your email. No phone calls, no email, no nothing. They literally sent me an email saying after one year of purchase they will only offer support if I BOUGHT it! Wow! Instead of purchasing support for this card I bought a SIIG 7.1 sound card and love it. See my review.
Customer Review: Windows 2000 driver may not be on install CD and has less features Summary: 3 Stars
Haven't tested on Vista, but OS compatibility might also depend on the manufacture date of product.
I recently got one of these and the box mentions compatibility with Windows 2000 (SP4), XP, and Vista. But when I popped in the CD on a Windows 2000 SP4 machine, the software stops, stating that it found an incompatible OS. Turns out Creative shipped only the new drivers on CD, which are incompatible with Windows 2000.
To get the Windows 2000 drivers, you need to download the older driver for the card from Creative's website (~50MB). Sadly the older driver has less features, one that I especially like that was missing was "What U Hear" audio mixing capability of the sound card.
Customer Review: Simple, easy, cheap, compatible Summary: 4 Stars
I upgraded my computer's video card to the ATI all in wonder 9600XT last week, and realized the on board soundcard did not have an extra input for the video card due to my 5.1 sound speakers. I went out, bought this at 10pm at night at a chain retailer, and slapped it in, and in 10 minutes my computer was up and running with new sound that is better than the on board soundcard, plus descent recording software and other sound software that my onboard card did not have. This card does not have any fancy digital inputs or outputs, nor a joystick port, but it gets the job done cheap and efficiently, and is from a brand I have trusted in at least 4 of my last computers. Worth a look at.
