Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Labs SB0570 PCI Sound Blaster Audigy SE Sound Card

Customer Review: Great for desktops, poor for media centers
Summary: 2 Stars

There are pros and cons to this audio card alas.

PRO: easy to install, and plays well with PC speakers, up to PC surround sound speakers. Drivers took minutes to install, and the converted volume control allows you to set each speaker.

CON: Does not support true Dolby 5.1/6.1/7.1, thereby making it incompatible with HD DVD and Blu-ray. Optical sound to an audio receiver stands at Stereo PCM, not 5.1. The add-on needed for optical/coaxial sound is seldom available even on Creative's store. Lastly, tech support is severely lacking.

If you wish surround sound on a desktop PC, this card might suit you. However, if you need Dolby in any way, avoid this card like the plague. For Blu-Ray and Media PCs, get this card: Diamond XtremeSound 7.1/24 bit Sound Card with Dolby Digital Live ( XS71DDL )

Customer Review: A bargain!
Summary: 5 Stars

Before purchasing Augidy SE SB0570 I was sceptical about its qualities. By the way, I only got it by chance as my previuos sound card based on the ALC888 chipset stopped working suddenly. I thought I would only purchase a good quality card by selling my kidneys so I never minded much about getting a good card. However, Creative Augidy SE has changed my mind. It's unbelievable how a such inexpensive device could brought the sound quality of my desktop to a much higher standard.

Main improvements: clear and open midrange, good soundstage (with my previous sound card it didn't exist at all), trebles better defined and better dinamics.

As an audiophile I'm able to recommend an audio stuff. Believe me, the refered sound card is a bargain. Of course, don't expect a hi-end performance, but it's good enough to play those badly recorded MP3 files.

Highly recommended!

Customer Review: Excellent upgrade!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Creative Audigy SE is an excellent upgrade from the standard computer system sound. I bought the soundcard for 2 important reasons:

1. I just purchased a new computer with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system, and the card works just fine with it. Definitely a HUGE upgrade from the standard computer sound at a nice price. Of course, make sure your desktop PC is compatible and has an extra PCI slot to slip the card into. I also have a Klipsch THX 2.1 speaker system, and now my computer sounds terrific through that.

2. Yes, the software that comes with the Creative Audigy SE card has an EQ for adjusting bass, treble, etc. Sounds huge! Just make sure you install the neccessary software from the CD.

So, if you want an excellent sound card for listening to music, watching videos, movies, etc., I think you will like this card.

Customer Review: Excelent Budget Card
Summary: 5 Stars

For the money, this is a great card. Just as it says, though: It's an upgrade from onboard audio. If you're upgrading another sound card, you might want to go with something a little more beefy, but for the average home user with no need for extreme audio, this is a wonderful sound card.

The only thing that I couldn't get to work was turning on hardware acceleration inside my games. Windows hardware acceleration works fine, but the games don't like to do it with this card. Game audio without that is superb - I have the game's sound channels cranked up and it is crystal clear.

Please note that the BLUE jack on the card is for the microphone, not the red jack. You'll have much less frustration if you know that beforehand. Veteran computer users are accustomed to plugging the mic into the red jack, but the red one here is an output...

Customer Review: Works, works, works!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had my current desktop for a few years now, and the sound recently went. I reinstalled the driver, but no go.

Life without sounds sucks.

I wanted to find a decent sound card without spending too much money; after all, I *don't* use this PC as a multimedia center, so getting something more expensive wouldn't be worthwhile for me.

So I read the reviews for this card, liked a lot of what I saw, and ordered it. I just put it in a few minutes ago (after deleting the old driver, naturally), and...yahoo! Mon dieu, we have sound! :-)

No problems installing, no problems getting Windows (I have XP) to recognize the new card, and the most important thing: Sounds can now be heard!

Maybe it's not true stereo sound or whatever, but this gets the job done, and it's more than worth the price.
