Bottom line: It's affordable. It does what its' meant to do. No extras like storage space, or legs but if you're simply looking to make your lap activities a little easier on your neck, back, wrists, or eyes and keep your laptop cool, buy this one.
I ordered this lapdesk on a Thursday and received it on Saturday. Super saver shipping was quite speedy this time! The packaging was fine. Simply wrapped in plastic, with a sliding hard cardboard cover over the desk itself, inside the amazon box. It's a pillow on one side, the side that rests against your lap, and a soft, grippy, rubber-like surface on the other side. The pillow isn't as fluffy as some of the others that I've seen. I'm not sure if this will affect it's performance down the line if it flattens out, but for now it's fine. I am using this with my 17" MacBook Pro and its' pretty exact. In fact, there is very little room beyond the edge of my keyboard. Maybe a millimeter or two. Anyway, my laptop hasn't "wheezed" since I began using this lapdesk, and my legs haven't been hot either so it does what its' supposed to. It also gives a slightly more aligned way to type as I sit on my bed, with my back against a boyfriend pillow, studying for hours on end.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I considered all sorts of desks with lights, cupholders, storage drawers and the like but some were too pricey while others had horrible reviews and just looked like junk. I'm certain that I will continue to be happy with this purchase for awhile and for just $10 I think I'm getting a product worth the money.
Update 07/16/2010 - My handy little $10 lap desk just died. Like another reviewer experienced, the pillow portion of the desk has stitching that has come apart, creating a hole, and there are white beads everywhere. This was used only by me when I do homework, and has only been on the surface of my lap or my bed over the last 6 weeks that I have owned it. I have no idea how cheap the material must be in order for this to happen so quickly. Instead of sewing or buying a patch, my hubby decided to just throw it out. Guess I'm back in the "shopping for a suitable lap desk boat." Grr.
