Customer Review: Cool looking, durable, and reliable but average usb 2.0 speeds
Summary: 5 Stars

User Profile
Here's a little background about what I use flash drives for. I use a flash drive for three reasons: keep all of my documents on me (school, personal, business, web page design, programming, what have you), keep a good reference library with me, and to run some portable apps.

Pros
*Looks cool
*Very strong casing. I suspect this flash drive could even survive an excursion in the pressure cooker. There are lots of reviews out there where people put this through the washer, run it over, hit it with golf clubs, drop in the pool for days, etc and it seems to do really well there.
*Portable applications run well on the drive
*Comes with keychain stuff, so it is nice to just keep the flashdrive on my keychain with no special usb stick case required
*The obviously larger storage capacity
*10 year warrenty (keep those reciepts scanned into your computer :) )

Cons
*The speed is just average for usb 2.0 flash drives: not horrible, but not excellent. For the price, I'd like excellent.

Final Thoughts
This was a good, worthwhile purchase. I expect this could be my primary flash drive some years until flash drives come in such a large capacity that they are essentially mini-back-up hard drives :) I'm sure this could be useful for 10 years or so if I really wanted it to be. The design seems especially nice if you happen to work in a hazardous place like a chemical plant, power plant, construction site, or some large scale manufacturing place or are especially prone to destroying flash drives.

Customer Review: It holds up
Summary: 5 Stars

I've always worked out of my home, writing software, and working on computers. I live in the forest on a mountain, and am a volunteer firefighter (both wildland and structure fires). I also spend a lot of time outside cutting trees for firewood in the summer and plowing snow in the winter. I got one of these drives soon after they came out (much more expensive way back then). I copy my critical data to it, and carry it every day in my pants pocket, jingling with my change. I know that houses burn down while owners are away. If mine burns down, I won't be happy, but I'll have my critical data.

It may not be as fast as a hard drive, but it survives. It has gotten wet, hot, cold, knocked around, etc., and just keeps on working. I'm here to buy a second one.

Oh, the silly black rubbery plastic rings don't last long, but serve little purpose. I'm talking about the ones on the outside. The water-seal O-ring is virtually indestructible.

One note: The first 16GB one that I bought several years ago came with TrueCrypt loaded on it. I just purchased a 32GB one from Amazon, and it had nothing at all on it, no readme, no software. If I want to use TrueCrypt, I can copy it over, but it surprised me to find it blank.

Customer Review: Highly recommended for anyone in the habit of breaking thumb drives
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this drive because I was tired of replacing $10 thumb drives, over and over due to broken caps and rings. So I broke down and ponied up the $50 for this one.

Best thumb drive purchase ever. The case is rock solid. You can put it on your keychain, keep it in your pocket, and have no problems. Since I haven't replaced my thumb drive in over a year (unheard of for me), it's already been worth the purchase price.

For the purpose of full disclosure, performance is not the best I've ever seen, but it's certainly adequate for my needs as an IT professional. This is not meant to be the zippiest drive -- it's meant to be well built so it can withstand punishment.

Highly recommended for anyone who frequently uses their thumb drive and wants to carry it around without fear of breaking it.

Customer Review: Keep your data safe

This product is a jumpdrive and does a fine job of that. I like to keep it in my pocket so that I always have access to it. Unfortunately it's a little bulky and also after a few months of wear the rubber grips are comming unglued. I think it's a good trade off though, since the worst thing about jumdrives is their ability to be lost or destroyed. I get the feeling like you could drive a car over this with no issue to its use in a computer. It also has a rubber gasket at the bottom of the screwing threads that may keep it watertight. Also it's bulkiness makes it harder to slip out of sight our from wherever you are carrying it. An extension usb cable is included to help it bulkiness from covering up other USB ports when it is plugged in.

Customer Review: 3 years and counting
Summary: 5 Stars

After having pen drive after pen drive fail on me due to getting roughed-up in my overflowing trouser pocket, I decided to buy the 16GB Corsair Survivor three years ago (almost to the day).

All this time later, and it's still going strong. Admittedly the USB plug is a little bent, but then I did stand on it whilst it was plugged into my laptop, so no surprise there. Also, just last week one of the rubber grips finally vanished (they slip off a little too easy on the 16GB and below versions), but the drive is still a workhorse for me and going strong.

I'm itching for an excuse to upgrade to the 32GB version; doesn't look like drive failure will be that excuse!
